I Was Disappointed with the "View" of the Confluence, but there are other sites to see...
My wife & I took the "trip up the tower" to see the confluence of the Missouri and Mississippi Rivers. Even with the helpful placards at the railing, it was a bit difficult to discern the actual confluence. I dunno, maybe the trees-still-in-leaf hampered my view. I guess the Missouri River was over there... "behind" that island/or/peninsula?

But, if you want to see oil refineries and fuel storage tanks, you can get a great view here!

Well, I admit it was a bit interesting to get a long-distance bird's-eye view of my hometown, Alton, and to see the faint skyline of St. Louis, as well.

Oh... WARNING... and the lady at the ticket counter did warn us... the wasps were swarming at the top level of the tower when we were there in late, HOT, September.

Getting a good view of the Lewis & Clark State Historic Site
If you have a fear of heights, as I do, the Lewis and Clark Confluence Tower offers some options. Located at 435 Confluence Tower Drive in Hartford, Illinois, it is a 180-foot-tall tower on the Illinois bank of the Mississippi River, one mile south of the Lewis and Clark State Historic Site where the members of the famous Voyage of Discovery of 1804-1806 made their winter camp before setting up the Missouri River on their way to the Pacific Ocean. The tower has platforms at 50, 100 and 150 feet, providing expansive views of the confluence of the Missouri and Mississippi Rivers, downtown St. Louis and the Gateway Arch. It also has two legs, one with an elevator and one with stairs. The tower was opened to the public in 2010. Visitors must be accompanied by a tour guide, who offers interesting stories about the history of the Lewis & Clark Expedition and life along the riverbanks.

Well done for what it is, but little to see
2019年5月 • 夫妻情侣
I happen to be fascinated by both river confluences and the Lewis & Clark expedition, so it was a no-brainer that I had to see this place. Once inside and at the top floor, you see the confluence and that's it. We spent about 5 minutes. I was glad they built this tower and glad I went, but It would be misleading to say this is some sort of "must see" for everyone.

Acend the Confluence Tower to get a birds eye view of the great river conjunction
2018年12月 • 家庭
A newer iconic landmark on the Great River Road and another hidden jewel of world renown in Madison County, IL. At the confluence of the Mississippi and Missouri rivers you can climb up to 150 feet above and look down on their waters and lament the story where Lewis & Clark began their journey westward.
They have a small gift shop and there are hiking and biking trails, picnic facilities, and day use areas nearby. And, if you’re already planning to stop by; don’t forget the Interpretive Center and the rock monument!

The Only Way to See Confluence of 2 Great Rivers
2018年9月 • 夫妻情侣
The tower can be easily seen from the highway and although there is a 6 dollar charge per person, the view from the top is well worth the price. We had tried to see the joining of the two great rivers but there is no real viewing area. I thought with such a great part of USA geography, there would be bridges and viewing platforms to see this great geographical site. This tower as far as I am aware is the only viewing site of the confluence and you will need to know exactly where the rivers join or you will not be able to find the location. The viewing platform is virtually directly in line with the Missouri entry point and the vegetation completely obscures the actual joining area and you will need to look very carefully to see the Missouri River. If you have binoculars, bring them it will be a great help. You can also see St Louis in the distance and on a clear day you can see the Gateway Arch. Very good visit.

Lots of information. We enjoyed the short history clips, tower views and courtesy of ladies working. We were there about half hour. Platforms are clean, wee maintained and safe. Elevator is provided. Short but sweet.

" Elevators Did Not Work "
2018年7月 • 夫妻情侣
I was not impressed with the Lewis and Clark Confluence Tower. 1 st we entered a very small room with a super small TV screen and poor sound, and we were supposed to watch some history about Lewis and Clark. So that was a bust ! Then we were supposed to get on the elevator and travel to the top of the 15 floor Confluence Tower so we could see the view. Well the elevators were not working. So the only thing for us to do was to walk around the grounds and look at a few statues etc. Total Bust !

Visited on a beautiful clear Saturday.

Make sure that the weather is clear and sunny to get the best views of St. Louis and the river confluence.

There are three levels to the tower--make sure to visit each one. They have different history and facts.

This is handicap accessible. There is an elevator in the tower, but stairs are also available.

If you bring kids, please keep them in check and under control. Everyone pays admission, and no one wants their experience ruined by some out if control kids. In fact, it's not a great place for little kids. They will be bored.

We saw families come in, pay admission, and then leave 5 minutes later. So think about the cost before you bring your easily bored kids.

Otherwise, it was a great experience.

Nice View

The tower is definitely open now, maybe limited hours, but it was open on a Sunday in June. It's nice to see the confluence from above. It's a nice view of the river and the surrounding area. There are a few signs on the levels, but not much else there.
