Beautiful building and polish language Masses every weekend. An old-world experience without the jet lag.

This the largest church of three Catholic churches in Lemont. It is very reminiscent of the beautiful European churches seen traveling Europe everywhere. Grand, elegant, and extra specially decorated at Christmas. I always love how you can admire this church from afar at different locations because Lemont has a lot of hills and this church is at the top of one of the highest. Beautiful! One more nice note, They have a lovely small shrine also outside out back and it offers a peaceful moment of prayer and thought whenever the need anytime. It is also nicely decorated with flowers around the area in the warmer weather.

Very beautifully kept up older church with a Polish and Lithuania cultural atmosphere. Very pleasant and serene in and around the grounds.

Beautiful old world house of worship. Christmas time is the best time of year to visit this beautiful Church

On Nov. 23, 1882, Archbishop Patrick A. Feehan authorized Rev. Leopold Maria Moczygemba, pastor of St. Alphonsus Church, to establish a Polish parish in Lemont. On Ash Wednesday, Feb. 22, 1928, the fire destroyed the church and rectory. On April 21st 1929 the cornerstone of the new church was laid. The church was designed by Erhard Brielmaier, and sons, who are most well known for their design of the magnificent St. Josaphat Basilica in Milwaukee. The Romanesque style edifice was completed in 1929. Some of the church's highlights are the beautiful original rose window, the new entryway, and the church's steeple which is the highest elevation in all of Cook County, Illinois. The interior is beautiful, full of ornaments, paintings and nice altars.

Poles are noted in the Lemont area as early as 1860 working in the local quarries. SS. Cyril and Methodius parish was founded in 1884 as a Polish parish. The surrounding area was called Jasna Góra, in reverence to the shrine of the Black Madonna in Poland. The parish offers mass in both Polish and English and is currently home to 1,965 families.
The church was designed by Erhard Brielmaier, and sons, who are most well known for their design of the magnificent St. Josaphat Basilica in Milwaukee as well as the now closed parish of St. Salomea in Roseland. The Romanesque style edifice was completed in 1929, replacing a former church that burned down in 1928. Some of the church's highlights are the beautiful original rose window, the new entryway, and the church's steeple which is the highest elevation in all of Cook County, Illinois.
I recommend this church to visit.
