The History Museum, located inside the original free public library, is fun for those interested in local Quincy history. The archived church windows on the 2nd floor is the most interesting of all. Outside, one will see pieces of historic buildings, now razed, from the Quincy area.

On the grounds of the History Museum in Quincy, Il is this quaint outdoor architecture museum. We walked this free museum waiting for the History Museum to open. Some of the pieces were identified, while others were not. It was nice to see the photos of the buildings these pieces came from as well as the outline boxes on the photos, where the items were located on he buildings. Enjoyed walking around, only wish all of the pieces would have been identified.

The "Gardner Museum", now called the Quincy Museum is great for a stopover. Monthly changes to the "featured display" in addition to the other more permanent displays make it a charming museum. Great location upstairs for a small ensemble concert. Also, it could be a "small-wedding" venue.......Lovley!

Beautiful building completely restored with beautiful stained glass on the second floor. Rotating exhibits that will change on a regular basis.

A small museum is located in the museum detailing some of Quincy's history. It's an informative display detailing the Moorman's crossing over the Mississippi and what life was back in the 1800's. The building it's self has a lot of history and was once the public library. There are local walking tours hosted by the Quincy Historical Society that leave from there on Saturday, they have a brochure with times and dates of the tours. We've been on several of them and have found them very informative.

So the Gardner Museum fell on hard times recently and the foundation recently gifted this museum to the Historical Society of Quincy. Much of the interior details of this gorgeous building are in tact. The new owners are determining how they will use each room so its a work in progress. The second story has a stained glass and window exhibit that is quite stunning. Unusual items include a standing fountain that lights up -- in art deco style - quite stunning. Notice the lighting, stairway hand rails and paneling on the walls. Main floor has welcome area, gift shop and historical exhibits from the area. Very interesting and worth the trip if you are in town.
