We ended up at Sinnissippi Park because we were seeking out the Rock Guardians of Rockford which we listed on the Roadsideamerica,com website. This is a really nice park along the shores of the river. There is free parking, walking paths and restrooms at the site. The Rock Guardians are very impressive as they stand to watch over the river. You can enter the park for free and walk right up to the Guardians for your photo ops. There are other sculptures in the area and the entrance to the Botanical Gardens are in this area as well.

Pretty fascinating sculpture found on the river walk trail. Beautiful scenery. These Rockmen are 12 feet tall that are made up completely with boulders and held together by cement. Nice statues to check out if you are ever in Rockford, Illinois.

A Rockford treasure. From the time I was young, this was our favorite park. As golfers, we always chose the picnic tables above the sixth hole. There were plenty of tables for larger groups and a grill for cooking breakfast or lunch items. It gave us a nice view of the downhill par 3. We could pass the time critiquing players swings.
And if there was music at the bandshell, it was a nice place to listen away from the crowd.

I was visiting Rockford as a daytrip on a Monday, and stopped at the Nichols Conservatory and found out that it is closed on Mondays (and half price admission fee on Tuesdays). So, instead I had the time to walk around in the beautiful Sinnissippi Riverfront Park inside which, in fact, the conservatory is located. There are a variety of impressive features in the park including the lagoon, the rose garden and several small fountains and waterfalls. A pair of white swans and several ducks were living in the lagoon. The Flower Clock is a beautiful centerpiece. Plants and trees are meticulously labeled so a visit here is very informative. The park also has a paved trail next to the Rock River and along the trail are installed large sculptures such as the Symbol and the Rock Guardians of Rockford. The trail is well maintained and is quite popular. A visit to the awesome Sinnissippi Riverfront Park is well worth the effort.

I wandered Sinnissippi Park for a few hours before going to the Conservatory. I started on the south end and walked all the way to the end of the rose garden and back. There are plenty of interesting plaques and art to see, including the Rock Men sculptures, which are impressive.
I happened to be out on a perfect Friday morning. I sat on a bench and enjoyed the mid-60's temps, sun, and the sounds of birds and the river. There were plenty of people out walking, jogging, or biking and most everyone was pleasant.

Sinnissippi offers a park setting with well established gardens indoors and out. The here is a hiking/biking trail that follows the river for about 3 miles. For a more casual walk, you can stroll through well maintained outdoor gardens. The greenhouse is definitely worth a visit of its own.

Leave the Library out the back door if it's open, or walk around to the river front, then walk North to the Whitman Street bridge, East across it, then South along the river and through the displays to the end of the park and the street which has several nice restaurants, then to the State Street bridge and West to the Library's street for a nice hour, or two stroll on a nice day!

Nice place to visit in Rockford, you can walk & sit around the pond, there are ducks in pond. If you like to bike they have a nice bike path. Seasonally the boat rides are offered by the park.
