The kids had a blast. All rides working and clean. Staff was friendly and helpful. Will return on our future visits!

Definitely not for ages 10 and older. My son had a terrible time. However for the younger crowd it would have been awesome.

This place was essentially a bunch of stations to build with Lego or duplo. It was so crowded and clustered. Not a ton of workers. They really need to limit the amount of people.

My 3 year old loves legos and we were excited to make a 3 day weekend to the Chicago area to visit Legoland in Schaumburg. We were sorely disappointed. We got there at opening time and there was quite a wait. We found out when we got to the ticket counter (we had already purchased tickets online) that both of the rides were down. They offered to give us passes for a different day (but we couldn't visit that day if we took that), a refund (and no entry), or you could go in knowing the rides were down and they had no estimate as to when they would be back up. Well, we had already driven nearly 4 hours and weren't going to tell our 3 year old he couldn't go to legoland having already been in the door, so we went in anyway. In this case I feel like a discount was warranted but that wasn't an option.
The lego displays when you get inside are really neat, but not at all interactive. Also once you're inside there's a 4D movie (that costs extra) and a VR simulator (that again costs extra). For the price of admission (which is not cheap!) these should be included.
My son did like the play area upstairs with the pirate ship and giant legos. He did build a couple of cars to drive down the ramp they have, but honestly we could've just done that at home. The whole experience was underwhelming. Even my son was ready to leave after less than an hour. He was more excited about a lego set we bought at the gift shop than the whole experience.
Overall, we will never be back and I would not recommend anyone go here unless the price goes down or they include more in the ticket price.

*Please read this review before going to the Lego Discovery Center*
And mind you, this is coming from my 11 year old grandson who LOVES Lego and he not only will write this review with me but will also share his thoughts.
The building looks great from the outside but steer clear of the inside. This place is overpriced for what you are getting. When you walk in, there is a Lego store to your left with a plentiful selection of Lego sets that many will enjoy. The first part of the paid display is a massive construct of the Chicago Lakefront along with O’Hare airport and Soldier field. In the downtown Chicago exhibit, there are huge familiar buildings, such as the Willis and Hancock towers, the Old Water Tower, The Bean, Navy Pier, Millennium Park, and many others. There are numerous movie and tv show references, most of which were vehicle related. This part and the next are worth seeing and interesting, but not for the cost of admission charges.
The next part of the building is a jungle, with many cool tropical Lego animals and a few cheesy quizzes of course made for children, some with inaccurate answers. When you walk past the short and sweet jungle display, you can sometimes see the Lego master builders but they were not there this time around. There were also many closed attractions, one of which was the 3D car racing. We then decided to go to Kingdom Quest where you shoot slow moving spiders and glitchy Lego monsters on screens for a short few minutes. The poor worker managing the ride was over enthusiastic and ober caffeinated. . Now to the upstairs section.
There was of course a closed cafe so we went to the 4Dtheatre where you guessed it, 4 year olds were screaming. There is also a Lego friends section but we were not interested in it. The car ramp for Lego vehicles you built with an underwhelming number of Legos was lame. The Merlin’s Apprentice ride was… you guessed it, closed. The pirate playground looks like a sad McDonald’s PlayPlace and wasn’t fun at all, especially not for an 11 year old.
The best thing was getting a Lego base-plate from the shop. Could have done that without paying the admission fees. ($25/ pp)

We took our grandson and it was very small, rides where closed, picture kiosk was not working, a few other features where closed also. Very disappointed as we drove and hour to get there and only spent an hour looking around. Paid 24.00 per person for not enough to do there. Had to go somewhere else.

It was way too small, none of the features where open. For 24.00 each ticket we only spent an hour, too expensive .

We planned this trip as a surprise Christmas present for our 5 year old who loves Legos and has been asking to go to Legoland for months. We were all disappointed by the lack of attractions and entertainment that came with the $25 per person price point. While the builds of Chicago upon entry are impressive, I wouldn't expect to pay money to see them. After that area you come to a VR ride that costs $6 per person and no one under 6 can ride it. Next up is a 5 minute shooter ride that is cute but the guns don't work and the videos freeze up. Upstairs there is a 4D movie that lasts 15 minutes, again it's cute but the timing is off between the video and the 4D stuff so it wasn't great. The play area looks really cool but is not much to climb in or on. There are 3 build areas that are really tiny, not enough room for more than 5 kids really. The toddler area is a joke. One slide and one play table with about 100 duplo blocks. The Magician Ride was broken but didn't look like much fun anyway. Over all it was a waste of a 6 hour round trip and $115.00. We should have gone to the Museum of Science and Industry, it would have been cheaper and way more attractions, same amount of travel. Complete disappointment.

We brought our 4 and 6 year old. It was a great way to spend the day. Legoland kept them busy for almost 3 hours. There are 2 rides. We went in thinking the one ride was down/broken, so it was a pleasant surprise when it was running. The whole family loved the 4D movie. If you go in expecting an amusement park, you will be disappointed. If you go in expecting more of a children's museum, you will be pleasantly surprised and content. Most things are included. You get to make a lego bracelet as a take home keepsake. Virtual reality is a $6 up charge, which seems pretty reasonable. I'm glad we did not buy the photo package. They only take your picture 1 time and then there are multiple backdrops to pick from. This place is best for younger kids!

Not sure if they have family passes. We used a "KIDS GO FREE" coupon that they put in the Lego catalog. Go to Lego website and order a catalog. Kids are free with a paying adult.
Hope this helps.
What are current discounts for adults and children?

If you go online and put in Legoland discount, you will get several sites to check out.

How does the Legoland Discovery Center compare/contrast to the Legoland in Orlando, FL?

The main difference is that the one in Florida is an open park and much larger. This one in the Chicago area is in a mall and indoors; probably due to the winter time (otherwise they would not be able to open at that time). It is also much smaller than the one in Florida.
What would be the best way to get to Legoland from downtown Chicago?...traveling with younger children.

Best for me would be to drive. You could take a Metra train from downtown. Hire a cab to take you from the train station to Legoland and hire another cab to take you back to the station. I think it would better to rent a car.

Tickets are sold on line. So you could probably call and ask if it's busy. We went on a Thursday and it was perfect.

You could see everything in a couple hours, but if you choose to do all the experiences and rides, it takes at least half a day.
Are you allowed in even without a child? This looks like a ton of fun, and I really want to check it out.
