Spring Valley is an amazing nature/historical park run by the Schaumburg Park District. It is a great entertaining place for children. The outdoor playground can keep kids busy for a long time and the Nature Center is quite educational. Do not miss going up the tower near the Nature Center for a wonderful panoramic view of the whole complex. The Heritage Park comprises the preserved German farm which includes cabins and several farm buildings. The walking trails are very well maintained.
It would be a doubly great time to visit Spring Valley when they have specially scheduled exhibits and historical enactments.

This was a very nice park. The staff at the welcome center were very nice and informative. There is a very nice little playground for kids. I liked the fact that the park was free. We did hike over to an old farm that had several animals such as cows, pigs and chickens. There was a nice little store there where I was able to get something to drink. It would have been nice if there were benches to sit down and rest and enjoy the surrounding. There was another parking lot at the old farm.

Surrounded by suburban Schaumburg, this is how one Schaumburg was 100 years ago.
I'll list a bunch of the attractions:
- There are 3 miles of paths; some paved, some woodchips.
- There's a nature center.
- There are signs along one of the trails starting with pre-historic man in the area and gradually working toward the present.
- There's an old cabin and surrounding grounds as it would have in the early 1900s.
- There's an old farmhouse from probably the late 1800s with a barn, chicken coop (and chickens), cows, and pigs.
- There's a quarter mile long path around an arboretum.
It is very well kept up. I go here often.
You wouldn't guess that modern Schaumburg is right outside the front gates.

Very beautiful and relaxing area. A lovely and easy are to be a part of the nature walk. Highly recommend.

I liked this place but mostly because there was not so much people here on gloomy and kind of cold Sunday afternoon. Stop first at visitor center to grab a map. Also they have there very clean restrooms. There are two small arboretums in this park and you can learn from them about local, native trees and shrubs . Perfect for walkers. There are two major walking trails . One is 1.5 miles and the other is 1mike ( partially those trails are the same). Heaven for birds and birds watchers. It is connected to the reconstructed farm from circa. 1880. Great for a trip with kids. Visitor center also have mostly areas dedicated for kids and thief education .

My granddaughter loves all the animals. The park is amazing for children. My husband and I enjoy relaxing on the benches in the tree area. I love going to the pond when the water lillies are in bloom. This is a great place to relax and enjoy nature.

This place might be better for young children, but the hiking trails were very easy, nothing at all difficult, but too short for my taste. The location is fairly central, can look at cows as well. If you're looking for hiking don't come here, if you have young kids come here, if you want to take young kids hiking this could be a good introduction for them aside of the park activities.
