Hennepin Canal
2017年6月
This is a nice footbridge over the dam on the Rock River. It is right behind the Dillon Mansion, an attraction in itself. It is a pretty area to see the birds, the river, the mansion, but to us the main attraction is you can catch the end of the Hennepin Canal here and walk or bike forever. It goes a total of 90 miles. It is all flat as it was designed for barge traffic to be drawn by horses, so there is a perfect trail all along the Hennepin. It is interesting that the Hennepin was ready for traffic about the same time the railroads starting hauling freight through here (prior to the Civil War). So it got abandoned shortly after it was constructed, it was to be part of a waterway that connected Lake Michigan, the Mississippi River, The Illinois River and the Rock River. Take a long peaceful, scenic bike ride along here and you will learn something about our history.

Great little park and the walkway is not to be missed
2016年5月 • 夫妻情侣
My husband and I visited the dam walkway and Martin's Landing last week. The walkway is beautiful and you get sweeping views of the Rock River. The walkway leads to a trail that takes you uphill to Martin's Landing. The whole area was beautiful and manicured nicely. This little landing is directly behind the Dillion House Museum in Sterling, Illinois.
