Great tour at least an hour long we had Andrew as our tour guide very informative very knowledgeable very professional lot of fun can't say enough great things about this tour

I loved this tour. One of a kind site. Friendly and helpful staff. A boat ride in a cave. Unbelievable. Definitely recommend

This was a very interesting experience. The tour guide was very good and she did a great job answering questions. We enjoyed seeing the different rocks, and the crawfish and fish that live in the dark were interesting. We also really liked sitting in the absolute dark, the absolute quite and hearing the cavern “thunder”. After the tour one of the guides pulled out a map of the whole system and be shared some of his experiences exploring the cave. That was very interesting.

Perfection is the one word I can think of that describes our experience at Bluespring Caverns. We arrived after 4:30, just in time for the last boat tour of the day which begins at 5:00. Reservations aren't accepted, so arrive early for your desired tour departure time.
While there are other caves located in fairly close proximity to this one that also offer tours, we chose Bluespring because it seemed less commercialized. We weren't looking for a Disney-style experience. Turns out we were fortunate to be able to see this natural landmark at all because tours aren't always possible. The day prior to our arrival, heavy rains had flooded the cave up to ceiling level, so it was impossible to guide a boat filled with humans through the channels. On the morning of our tour, the cave still wasn't navigable again until early afternoon.
Admission is $22 per adult, with a $2 discount for veterans. We were delighted that everyone in our party was granted the veterans discount though only one of us is a vet. We were also pleased that only seven people were booked for our tour, since tour group size is typically 16-17 people.
Alex, our guide, was a walking encyclopedia on caves and was very patient while answering questions from both adults and children during the cavern tour. She went into great detail explaining how the longest underground river in the United States was formed, how it was finally discovered in the last century, how it was initially explored, etc. We learned about blind fish and crayfish who need no eyes because they live in utter darkness. We also learned about the hazards of cave-diving and the huge risks people take to explore uncharted terrain in water-filled caves. Bring cash - you'll want to tip your guide generously.
Passengers are floated upriver in a raft-style aluminum boat. I like the fact that no artificial lighting is installed in the cave. You see the interior via one small boat light and via flashlight when the guide wants to highlight cave formations or critters of interest. You do get to experience utter darkness deep inside the cave when the boat lamp is switched off. A separate cave kayaking adventure is offered too, but the route appeared to be too claustrophobic for my taste.
At Bluesprings, visitors can prospect for dozens of types of gemstones in the Mystery River gemstone mine. Or go prospecting for fossils or arrowheads. The attraction is also the site of Indiana's largest sinkhole with a half-mile long hiking trail around the perimeter. The gift shop offers a few dozen types of interesting souvenirs, like gemstone jewelry and refrigerator magnets.
Wear a sweater or light jacket because the temperature is 58 degrees inside the cave. And wear appropriate shoes for climbing down and back up a 400-foot incline to the entrance of the cave. The path inside the cave is bumpy and possibly slippery before you board the boat. And don't fall in. The water temperature is 52 degrees and the water depth is twenty-one feet in some areas.
This attraction is well worth an hour detour off the interstate for a look-see.

Tour guide very knowledgeable. Boat ride very relaxed. Walkway is 400 feet long, uphill , at about at a 45 degree angle.

We had a great time. Me, my wife and 9 year old daughter loved it. Our 15 year old guide did a great job. He was confident, knowledgeable and well trained.
Bluesprings is exactly what it advertisers...a river underground. If you're in the area and you enjoy the wonders of nature, stop by and visit.

Did the kayak adventure tour - AMAZING TIME. Peaceful & relaxing, definitely recommended if you get a chance - these are ran in the off season & require a group, so get some friends & enjoy this unique experience.

Call before you go, on the day you plan to see this cavern. The website is not clear about when they are open. This site is closed all winter and just about anytime there is a moderate to heavy rainfall. They do not regularly update their social media, even though their website says to check Facebook for weather related closings. Don't count on it. I understand from others that they close early on slow days, with no notice. It's a nice place when you can get in, but it simply isn't a reliable business. I found the staff to be unhappy and not very helpful. I've wasted my time coming to this place twice just to find them closed when they should be open. I won't return. Indiana has several other caves that are just as nice.
Also, there's been a price increase. $20 for adults, $12 for kids, age 0-15.

I'm a rather large individual. For the overnight trip, it is said that we'd be crawling. Is the spa e wide enough for a 300 lbs man? About how much will we be crawling?

I have never done the overnight trip but, after doing the boat tour and hearing highlights of the overnight tours, it's my opinion that the spaces you'll be going through are large enough for you to go through. Otherwise, they would most likely let groups know that ahead of time. Hope you enjoy yourself, the place really is incredible!!

I don't like to be enclosed in elevators. Do you think it's all spacious enough that I won't feel claustrophobic?

Hello! If you are nervous in elevators, you probably would be okay, however you are the one with the best knowledge of how you will feel underground.
For a family with 4 kids (17, 7, 5, 3) is this the cave you'd recommend? We'll be in this area and looking for something fun for the family to do.

I guess it depends on your 3 and 5 kids- it is an hour boat ride - will they be okay with sitting for an hour? If so you should be fine. It is also pretty dark in the cave - only light is a light on the front of the boat. There were young kids on our boat and they didn't seem to mind it.
For a family with 4 kids (17, 7, 5, 3) is this the cave you'd recommend? We'll be in this area and looking for something fun for the family to do.

I would say the bigger kids would have a blast! My concern would be for the 3 year old. The walk is steep and the boat ride boredom may sit in. So bottom line I don't think the 3 year old would last the boat ride part of the tour. I hope this helps.
