Our first stop in Indiana Dunes National Park was the recreation area for the beach. It has restrooms and a viewing platform with picnic tables. So this was the first place I saw Lake Michigan and it was so beautiful. I was also amazed to see both the skyline of Chicago and a surfer in the lake. Again this is a really nice beach area in Beverly Shores with amenities. It was a cool but beautiful summer day and we practically had the beach to ourselves which was awesome. I will say it was strange to a beach with industrial factories. Still really good beach.

Everything! Kurt is an awesome guide and gave us the grand tour of North Shore, with so much knowledge of its history always showing us cool things .

Beautiful drive. Lake view the whole way. There's several parking areas along the shore & on State Park Road. Beware! Obey the speed limit & park where you're supposed to.
Right now, this area is in peril. The high lake level & pounding waves have decimated the beach. Hopefully, this road & the Florida House can be spared. For now, you can still drive on it. I don't know if there's going to be much of a beach this summer.

So beautiful! It is located and hour from the Chicago so it is quit easy to get here and relax. Very long and never crowded! Public parking here is a problem though. Check before heading out there.

We enjoy the fact that there is a free public lot just above the beach. We don't go on weekends because it's impossible to park in here.

That certainly is the question, but it is easy to understand how this beach came to be known as the North Shore Beach and that is because it is on the North Shore of Indiana. After all, Michigan is only a few miles away, along the shore. But it is part of the southern shoreline of Lake Michigan, so it could be either depending on your perspective. However, this is part of 15 miles of coastline along Lake Michigan, which includes about seventy miles of hiking or biking trails. Parking does seem to be limited, though the day that we were there, we had no trouble finding a parking spot. It wasn't crazy busy, because it was a bit chilly, but there was at least one person swimming in the cold water. This beach is located near the collection of homes that is known as the Century of Progress Historic District. There are shaded picnic tables and relatively clean restrooms at the entrance to North Shore Beach.

I come here often. It is so peaceful and beautiful! But remember there is not much parking around here. Come here of season or during week. On weekends in the summer it is hard to find parking all day.

It is very well maintained and clean. I went late in the day on a Saturday and it was not crowded at all. Makes you feel like your in Florida.

very limited open parking, found a spot that had a 15 minute time limit, so at least was able to see the beach. Tons of permit parking spaces that were 99% empty. After driving 3 hours to get there so we could rock hunt, was very disappointed.
