While visiting the IU campus, we made time to spend an hour in this architectural gem, an I.M. Pei-designed building, housing a wonderful representative art collection. First we explored the building, enjoying the 3-story atrium with all of its lines and and shadows and glass ceiling. There are seven galleries to explore: Ancient; Asian; Africa, Oceania, and Indigenous Art of the Americas; American and European; Contemporary; and Prints and Drawings. The American and European art gallery is a representative collection with examples of many styles over several centuries, including Renaissance, Dutch, American Landscapes, and Impressionism. The Contemporary gallery includes works by Henry Moore, Marcel Duchamp, George Rickey, and Jackson Pollock. And in the special exhibition gallery, we saw an exhibition of the actress Glenn Close's movie costume collection which she donated to Indiana U.

For an on-campus art museum, I was surprised at how many cultures were represented across the world. The rotating pop culture gallery is also one to look out for, the Glenn Close exhibit was worth seeing as well. If you go to school here, or just are in the area and are looking for something to pass the time, the eskenazi museum is one to peak around for sure.

Spent a couple hours walking through the impressive galleries spread across three floors of this museum. I live in Princeton and have been through their Ivy League art collection but i was not prepared for this place. Great displays on a huge scale with a lot of helpful staff to show you around or answer questions. Its really worth a stop

What a treasure! A lovely on campus museum with an impressive collection and it is free. There are seven galleries with a range of art including work by well known artists like Monet and Pollock.

This was the first time we have been since the renovation. Loved it the way it was love it the way it is now. Not exactly sure what was changed except the cafe. The standard collection is lovely, the rotating exhibit had several interesting items. The Ancient and Medieval section is uniquely high quality items and worth an extended visit.

This museum is a great place to spend an entire day just enjoying all the exhibits. It has an assortment of period art as well as Asian and Modern Art exhibits. The design of the building works well and is light and inviting.

This remodeled and newly reopened museum on the Indiana University campus is noteworthy not only for the vast collection but also for the I. M. Pei building in which it is housed. Art ranges across the ages and the continents to provide a broad tutorial for both aficionados and the uninitiated.

This is the main Indiana university arts museum in a newly refurbished building. The exhibitions are over three floors and are nicely laid out with lots of space for movement. Ground floor has some lovely work by old European artists, mostly as is to be expected on religious themes until the 17th century or so with work going up to modern times. The second floor has a cafe and a gallery of works by Egyptian,Greek and Roman artists and the top floor comprises of African,Polynesian and Oceanic artefacts and a drawing gallery. There are also educational facilities and lockers to leave bags in as these are not allowed in the gallery areas. All in all very impressive!

We visited on Friday afternoon, Nov. 8th. It was our first visit, having waited two years for the museum to re-open after renovations. The building, designed by I.M. Pei is an art piece unto itself. Wide open, light, space. On four different levels, we were grateful for the elevator as we are physically challenged in our advancing ages. The gallery spaces are well-lighted and the art beautifully displayed. We enjoyed the wide range of art from across the world. After enjoying a pastry in the snack bar, we were lucky to have been present for an interpretive dance performance. Well done, IU. The museum is one of the hidden gems on the campus!! Best of all it isi FREE to the public.

As folks might have known from last year and the majority of this year, the IU Art Museum had temporarily closed for renovations, enhancements, and expansions, thanks to a multi-million-dollar gift from Sidney and Lois Eskenazi. The wait seemed like forever—but now, since November 7, the museum is finally open for the public!!! Just as it always was before, this campus jewel needs to be on the priority list for anyone in Bloomington.

Please note that if checking it out during the first few weeks of operation, special events may be happening in addition to the world-class artwork. For example, I had the pleasure of watching a stunning dance group perform the most agile, flawless choreography I would ever expect to see. The biggest boon to the place’s atmosphere is its sheer openness (pictures won’t do justice)...the dancers could move and circle most of the ground floor and still remain within view of almost everyone in the museum. Sunsets and cozy rainy days will be delightful here. The space and feel of freedom offers a TON to the whole experience.

The museum righteously prides itself on housing a venerable collection of diverse art, everything from portraits, paintings, abstractions, light/glass art pieces, sculptures...can’t name them all, but all their possessions comprehensively range in time and culture/geography. During my recent visits (already two visits!), I didn’t yet get the chance to see all the art; I only toured the European/American collection (not the contemporary) and the Asian and Islamic Art collection. Both were just wonderful. Do not underestimate the quality and value of these artworks in a humble town like Bloomington!

That’s all I’ll go on about—you need to see it for yourself. Now’s the time!! Additional perks: campus/guest WiFi, ample chill/study/snack tables, a revitalized cafe with delish treats, and **FREE ADMISSION**. I literally almost forgot to mention that. So please, please visit! Recommended for everyone in Bloomington.
