Nice museum on history of Fort Wayne. It is self guided. Three floors. Cook part is jail in basement. A little creepy but fun. This museum in on building of old former courthouse. Some of exhibits need an update and were dusty though

Overall a very nice museum. I didn't know Ft Wayne played a roll in manufacturing copper wire. The jail in the basement was very unique, a lot smaller than I thought it would be. The staff was pleasant.

It was a smallish history museum, all of the interactive exhibits were closed for "health and safety," but there weren't too many of those, so it wasn't a big deal. Jail section was interesting. There was a wedding setting up on the top floor, but we were able to still see everything, just had to dodge around them (which was fine, we were told about it when we came in).

My daughter and I are not from Fort Wayne originally and we really enjoyed learning about the history of Fort Wayne.
The only thing that made the visit less enjoyable were the out of control and noisy school children who were, apparently, on a field trip. I am physically challenged and was in constant fear of being tripped or knocked down the stairs. It would have been nice to know ahead of time that school groups would be in attendance.

We visited this museum in Summer of 2019. It contains many exhibits that are typical of history museums. so we found nothing spectacular about this one.

My wife and I enjoy going to the History museum. I like the way rotate differnt displays in their museum. My granddaughter will stand and read every display thouroughly.

We visited when an elementary field trip was there. Unfortunately this group wasn't as behaved as the other field trip students we've encountered. I am guessing they were in grade 4 working on their Indiana history. Way too old to crawl around on the floor.
The admissions clerk suggested we start at the top as it was quieter. The layout of the displays flowed well - larger rooms to smaller areas and the hallways were utilized as well. My favorite area was the jail. The entry to the booking spot was in the basement. There were cells for men and one separated cell for women. The women even had a privacy wall for the bathroom. Original graffiti from prisoners is still on the walls. There is also a great police motorcycle on display.
The model of original Fort Wayne was well done.

This museum is small but well done. It explored the prehistoric until today. It is a tribute that they have utilized an original building to house history. Worth the time to visit.

The History Center has an amazing collection of documents and artifacts that document the history of this geographical area. There is an array of material about the founding of the city. The building itself provides a window into times gone by, including the old jail in the basement. Modern-day history is celebrated with acknowledgment of Vera Bradley Designs, the development of the television by Farnsworth and more. The style of the collection seems more old-fashioned than newer museums with professional designers setting up the displays. We had fun!
