$30 parking to walk around a typical city canal? The canal and area are fine, but it just isn't worth the price. Many other cities have free/cheap parking for better park areas, river walks, etc.

It was my youngest sister’s birthday and I planned a one hour paddle boat experience on the canal in Indianapolis. It was a great sunny day and a mild temperature. We paddled the north end of the canal that is one hour round trip. This is great for families and friends for $42.00

I really do love inner city riverwalks! This one takes you past museums and homes...with bridges clearly inspired by the bridges in Venice!

We stayed right on the canal. It was great to walk and to run. Lots of ducks and geese. Felt very safe. Was very clean

It's a pleasant stroll up and down both sides of the canal. No strenuous hiking and good for dog walking. One can rent bicycles to ride on the paths or kayaks to ride on the water.
It's not like the San Antonio or Chicago Riverwalks that have many eating and drinking establishments along the way. There are several museums that can be accessed along the canal.

We were here six years ago and enjoyed our walk along both sides of the canal. We were surprised that there were so few Canal side stops for drink and food, but the numerous water features along the way were pretty to see. This time we started at the same general area and noticed right away that the walkway had buckled in places, with holes and tripping hazards. The three water features that we had previously enjoyed were dry and in sad repair. There seems to be mostly residential and office space (mostly empty) along the walk and only one sidewalk cafe. We are not likely to come back in the future.

This 3ish mile walk is a great way to relax during a busy day. Its located pretty close to the popular attractions, so you don't have to go out of your way. They have boats you can ride during better weather!

There is the Indianapolis Colts Canal Playspace right off the canal and our 5 year old loved it here. So many people walking and running on the canal. Very cool spot!

There is a paid parking lot located at the IU Pathology Lab, on 11th Street. It's across the street from the IU University Med School. The entrance to the Canal Walk is literally across the street, so it was a very convenient place to both start and end our walk. We had no issues finding a parking spot either day we went.

4 person Paddle boats for $35 per hour, single kayaks for $20 per hour, and tandem kayaks for $25 per hour. You can also rent bikes at the south end of the canal- $10 an hour for single- $25 for 4 person surrey. On really nice days, the canal is packed with boaters on the water and bikers on the sidewalk. Then there are the Segway motorized scooters.

It's pretty safe during the day. I wouldn't do it at night alone. The "horseshoe" main section I consider safe, but the fringes have a bunch of homeless guys. It's always good to be cautious.
