We had a great visit, our guide was very informative and knowledgeable about the home. She and her husband are both tour guides. The house is in a nice neighborhood but there are no restaurants close by so be sure to eat before you go. We did not have a problem finding parking. We parked on the street but they do have a small parking lot on site.

Beautiful site with excellent historical and period pieces. Jamie provided a very thorough and personal tour. Outstanding! I became very familiar with this lesser known president and his political realities. Thank you.

Our tour guide, Payton, was a wonderful guide! She knew EVERYTHING about President B. Harrison, which made it very enjoyable. The home is in fabulous shape, and the grounds are beautiful outside.

We've now been to half a dozen presidential library-museums and had high hopes for this one. It seems we booked our tour on one of the worst days.
We arrived comfortably early for our tour, and that turned out to be fortunate. We pulled into their main driveway and found the far end blocked by a pickup truck with equipment trailer, evidently belonging to the landscaping work involving a back-hoe in the short distance. We turned around with difficulty and went driving around the blocks, unable to figure out where to park. So we pulled into the driveway again and my wife phoned the museum to ask what was going on. Well--whoever answered the phone had little to no idea what was going on, had to ask someone else. Yes, those are our landscapers. No, they won't move the truck, that driveway is closed. We have parking by the visitor's center.
Finally we pulled back out of the drive, found on-street parking, and got to the visitors' center with seconds to spare before our tour.
The volunteer staff was quite pleasant and knowledgeable. It was unfortunate that the house is under extensive renovation, so there were many rooms we could not appreciate and the third floor ballroom was off limits. But it's good to know they're maintaining this, the most complete home to a former president in the nation. My only minor complaint about the tour was that the narration was a bit stream-of-consciousness and repetitive--how many times do I need to hear that Mrs. Harrison was a fine artist and pianist?
Also, our tour contained 15 people. We began by crowding into the foyer, where our guide did customary introductions and orientations and proceeded to describe everything in the adjacent front parlor. However, that room is roped off and only 2 or 3 of us could look inside as a time--so my first glimpse of most of the room came after she'd finished talking and started to move us into the second parlor. Now, I'm slow--I generally allow others to go ahead of me, especially on stairs. Many times, I heard the first minute of the presentation before I was caught up with the group--and the stragglers just in front of me were similarly left out.
After the tour and a brief visit to the gift shop and special exhibit in the visitors' center, we went over to the outbuilding for the rest rooms and through the other visitor parking lot--the one we didn't get directions for, which had empty spaces. Interesting that the women's room was labeled but the men's room was not--I wound up walking around the building looking for the M sign.
They must have paid management. They're not doing their jobs well. Whoever holds that job is bad at it. If they intend to close a driveway, the way to do it right is to block it off right at the street with a clear sign that days "driveway closed"--and not with what looks like a work truck driven by a jerk at the far end. Signs directing guest to the other parking lot would be only courteous. Then, they could notice when their men's room sign has fallen off and get a new one. They might even work on scripting the presentations of the volunteer guides, help them put a finer polish on their presentation skills. They also should reduce the numbers in the tour so that some guests are not left out.

Thank you for your note and feedback. We are sorry for the inconveniences you described experiencing during your visit, and acknowledge there was more we could have done that day to better mitigate them. Please accept our apology.
We pride ourselves on providing an excellent visitor experience, and clearly fell short on the day you visited. The damaged men’s restroom sign you noted has already been replaced, and the roadway blockage caused by our landscape construction crew preparing for the addition of a Neighborway—to allow for pedestrian and bicycle reconnection to the neighborhood, cut off by the interstate 50 years ago—was a one-day necessity to remove large invasive trees without jeopardizing the health and safety of visitors and passing vehicles. Construction safety is a priority, and we have worked hard to balance that alongside keeping the museum open, so as to help educated visitors about the significant investment of time, resources, diligence and expertise required to maintain the national historic landmark home of an American president as a 501 (c)3 non-profit with no direct federal support.
We hope you will consider visiting us again, as the more than $6 million in historic preservation and capital improvements to our national historic landmark property and grounds currently underway will be completed later this year. We’d encourage you to reach out to our Experience Manager, Daniel Bennett, at dbennett@bhpsite.org when you do so, so that we might have the opportunity to make up for our shortcomings on your visit last week, and demonstrate why the Benjamin Harrison Presidential Site has earned recognition as one of the top “things to do” in Indianapolis on TripAdvisor.
Thank you again, and we appreciate your understanding.
Sincerely, the Benjamin Harrison Presidential Site team

A really informative tour with a great guide (Payton). An amazing number of original pieces and a small tour. It was just the three of us. Well worth a stop

Great house that had many of the original artifacts still remaining. The house has been well preserved. Our tour guide was very knowledgeable and Daniel the curator of customer experience has done a good job. Don't miss this one if you are in the area.

This is a great historical site just north of Indy's downtown. The beautiful home is filled with great period pieces. We learned a lot about the president and his life and career, as well as some cool facts about Indianapolis' history. The guide we had was friendly and knowledgeable. I f you like history, I would definitely recommend a visit. Ask about a AAA discount.

I would like to take a group of 8th graders on this tour. Would that age group be interested? Or would they lose interest?

It would be pretty esoteric for a high energy, short attention span class. If that description doesn’t apply, then it could work. But a drawback will be that the tour is not conducive to large groups, unless you arrange in advance so you can have more than one host and break the class into groups of about eight. Any larger and it is hard to fit into the rooms as you walk around the house and see cheat the docent is talking about or pointing to. Also, the exhibits in the other building and the exhibits on the to floor are small so a group larger than 10-12 would be in each other’s way.
