Safe walk along the river. Appreciated the nods to the State of Indiana along the course. There’s a pristine natural landscape along the path, but all cultural sites such as the museums and the NCAA Hall of Champions are closed on Mondays.

The white river state park encompasses the zoo, visitors center and I believe, the museums and the outdoor music arena. We walked the trail that had river on one side and zoo on the other. It was safe and not crowded even though it was a warm sunny November morning. We walked from our hotel in Mile Square.. There is a pedestrian bridge over the river that offers great views of downtown Indy. The visitors center had a very friendly woman who knew a lot of great places to see in Indy. Much appreciated!! This is a great way to spend an hour or two

Been here several times for concerts and other events, but it's also fun to just walk around and see the canal and everything.
Lots to do around the park as well.

Nice green space in the downtown. Nearby Veterans park had some vagrants but did not see any here, but the Firecracker 6K was going on

You can save a lot of money on Mondays because museums like the NCAA Hall of Champions and the Indiana State Museum are closed on Mondays. And you get the bonus of Food Truck Monday. We got to enjoy some wonderful street tacos here.
You pay in advance for parking for the amount of time that you want. But the outdoor spaces are free. Some of these areas are quite interesting like the Medal of Honor Memorial or quirky like the steam clock.
Plenty of exercise walking the cultural trail.

Located in downtown Indianapolis, this large park is full of green space, trails along the river, and many other outdoor sites. It’s a relaxing break from the large city life. There is a fee to park, but not to enter.

I came down with covid just days before my reservation
Had to cancel my trip to Indiana for my nieces wedding
They would not give me my money back or let me reschedule
for a future date.
They said I did not do it with in the 14 days policy
If i knew i was going to be sick with in 14 days of check-in
I would have called
Very disappointed

I've been wanting to check this park out for a while and we finally went! My dog enjoyed taking in the sites and scents. I enjoyed walking around with him, along the canal walk, and in other areas of the park. We took in great views of the city! We were able to park right next to the park and it was 6.00 for 1-2 hours the day we went. They also had a farmer's market going on at the time which was extra nice. Look forward to coming back again!

We attended a concert at the ampitheatre last weekend and went down early to explore the park with our dogs at the suggestion that this park was very dog friendly. First, for an urban park, it is gorgeous. Prior to attending, we tried to research parking and navigating the park in general, and ran into a few issues. The website map does not mark where the parking exits take you, nor does it indicate that much of the exits are stairs. When we finally entered the park, we were dismayed to be unable to find any water drinking stations or waste bags for our dogs, contrary to other reviews. Luckily, there was a Juneteeth celebration - which ended up being awesome - and we could purchase food and water from vendors. Unless you have prior experience at this park, make sure to bring waste bags and water if you are bringing your pups.

We parked in the Zoo parking lot which is a short walk to the state park and it is free. It is a nice walk over the river and a clean lot. Safe from all we could tell.

So can you just buy GA tickets at the gate? I was looking online for Lawn General Admission & they are quite pricey for LAWN seats I thought.

This is an answer I can't 100% back because the smoking laws are forvever changing in Indiana but yes. I am a smoker and have smoked on the grounds and have seen many smoke there as well as recently as about 3 weeks ago. Many walk the canal that is connected and smoke there too as well. I am always very respectful if I must and have never been bothered.
Are we allowed to bring any kind of food and or drinks into the park for a concert?

No need for a "Sate Pass" as the Park is not part of the usual Department of Natural Resources. The fees are associated with parking and if visiting the attractions, concerts, events, etc. Walk around and really enjoy the middle of downtown Indianapolis along the banks of the White River.

how do I get to White River State Park from Sheraton Indy in downtown Indy? No car.

Easy walking distance west bound along the city sidewalks to the Historic Military Park greenspaces then wander along the Canal Walkway, visit the attractions, enjoy the scenery and art throughout the Park. The Visitor's Center at 317-233-2434 is always a great start for fun things to do at White River State Park.
