I attended the season opener all-Tchaikovsky program and the Grieg Piano Concerto/Dvorak Symphony No 8 program recently. Both were so enjoyable. I would recommend the DSM Symphony to anyone, even people who think they don’t enjoy classical music. It is so much fun to watch the soloists, conductor, and orchestra, not to mention listening to the glorious music.

Our conductor has been in Des Moines for over 25 years. We have musicians who have been playing in the symphony for longer than 25 years. We have a superb series of concerts. The concerts are in the Des Moines Civic Center which recently had a total remodel the sound stage to make it first class for musical concerts. Each concert is generally performed on Saturday night at 7:30 PM and then the same concert is replayed on Sunday afternoon at 2:30 PM. I typically go on Sunday afternoon because it is less expensive and there is less traffic and I can get seats in Row H on the left of center. I sit left of center so I can see up close the hands of the solo performers on the stage.

Mussorgsky is one of my favorite composers, for both his intensity and variety in instrumentation. Hearing his work in this setting was a phenomenal experience. I'm glad I came back for another show, and will continue to return in the future--the Des Moines Symphony is a hidden gem in a city that doesn't usually come to mind when you think of a place to experience culture.

We have spent the last three New Year Eves with the Des Moines Symphony and will probably make it a annual outing with a pre concert dinner at "Spalsh" across the street from the Civic Center. Des Moines is fortunate to have this first class Symphony playing in a beautiful packed House each year on this night! The guest artist this year was a sound alike Frank Sinatra impersonator who brought down the house with the solid sound backup of the orchestra with some added big band brass from Drake University!
As popular as this event is one will have to order tickets early for 2017 New Years Eve!

Ever since I can remember, I've wanted to hear a live rendition of a Wagner piece. Today was our first time at the Des Moines Symphony, and the Overture to The Flying Dutchman is one of the most fabulous things I have ever heard. Maestro Giunta does such an excellent job--he used to come and bring a few musicians to perform at my elementary school. His knowledge of & familiarity with the compositions he conducts is fascinating and impressive. There is so much culture waiting for you at the Civic Center!

How does a city as small as Des Moines have a treasure like the Des Moines Symphony? It is truly incredible, and so few people know that so much talent and ability is here! The recent combination of Tony award winner, Audra McDonald, combined with the symphony made for a magical evening. I only wish more combinations like tonight's event would occur, and showcase our Symphony orchestra.

Whatever the Symphony plays, it will sound fabulous. Each performer puts so much of themselves into the show, you know you'll love it. The special New Year's show could not have been better...wonderful music accompanied by wonderful Cirque performers...perfection!

Fabulous! I was invited by a friend. It was a combination of Cirque de Solei preformers and the Des Moines Symphony. I find the Symphony along kind of boring, but this was great!
