I have toured this active log mill twice. Very interesting to see the entire lumber making process close up and for FREE!!!

We visited during their 35th anniversary, tour was interesting & informative. We enjoyed the tour at both locations-Marketplace was amazing. Worth taking the time to stop & learn.

We took this tour on a whim when passing through Cedar Rapids. What the heck I thought, it was only half hour out of our way. Well, it was worth driving THREE hours out of the way! Even my surly 15 year old who didn't say much the whole tour said, "that was really cool" at the end. We were the only 4 people on the "tour", which was really more of a personalized employee orientation. Awesome! A woman from HR gave the tour (Her name escapes me...) and she was very knowledgeable and enthusiastic - not some bored high school kid reciting the same spiel.
The best part is you are immersed right on the mill floor and walking the catwalks. You're given ear protection and safety glasses. You're not banished to watching from behind some glass window or a yellow line. You get to see REAL huge logs being cut and thrown around like tooth picks by massively powerful equipment. The raw speed and power is mesmerizing. If you like to see powerful machines in action, this is the tour for you. It was free too! I'd see it again if I'm in the area.
Probably not for kids under 10 since all the machines and noise might be kind of scary.

The tour of Kendrick Forest Products in Edgewood, Iowa is a learning experience. It is fascinating to see the timber industry process from start to finish. The best part is seeing the technology and learning from the great employees at Kendrick's. Definitely bring your walking shoes. They do make accommodations for those less mobile. It takes 2-3 hours for the tour.

Do you have flexible hours for the tours, Saturday tours , are there steps?

Our winter tours are Tuesday and Thursdays at 9:30.
If you have a group of 12 or more we can schedule a private tour for you.
