Wreckers or Checkers Bar - still going strong...the definition of your local watering hole !!!

Wreckers or Checkers is doing it right...friendly service, great prices, no fancy frills or fuss...just chilly cold beers and your basic mixed drinks...the atmosphere is upbeat and the patrons or more than personable.

Todd and Traci are the proprietors and they would welcome you with open arms.

Get there...you will enjoy !!!

Wreckers or Checkers Bar - a great little bar and locally owned...Come and Enjoy !!!

Wreckers and Checkers Bar is located on the north side of the Fontanelle, Iowa town square. The owners, Todd and Traci Van Eaton, are local to the area, and have done a fantastic job in completely gutting the previous bar's interior, including all fixtures and fittings, and remodeling absolutely everything. From the bar's name, you can get the idea that the interior is decked out in a auto racing motif. End result...a really cool and hip place to come and relax, watch some sports on the flat screen TVs, shoot some pool, play some electronic golf, listen to some tunes belting out of the jukebox, and otherwise just kick-back and have a flat-out really good time.

This is not a fussy place that serves fancy drinks and all sorts of craft beers. Nope...when you come here, you drink bottles or cans of Budweiser, Busch, Miller, and a couple more flavors, etc...just the basic beers. Nothing is on tap. And the cocktails are also the basics...bourbon and coke, rum and coke, vodka and seven, etc...none of these complicated recipe drinks. And the soda pop mixers are from the can, not from a dispenser...so the freshness of the soda is always there. And no food is available, except for bags of peanuts or chips.

This place is really fun, especially on the Friday and Saturday nites, when quite a few folks are in to have a good time, kick-back, and cut loose!!!

The place opens up at 4pm most days, and depending upon the traffic, may close down pretty early...but will for sure stay open until the gang heads home for the night

Prices are great...2 bucks for a beer, and 3 bucks for a cocktail.

So the next time you are passing through on Iowa Highway 92, or on one of those party bus pub-prowler tours...be sure to stop at Wreckers or Checkers !!!
