5. Great selection of locally made grocery products. One of the largest selection of bratwurst In Iowa. The chicken/Spinach /Feta are the best I have ever eaten. Also really enjoy the large sandwiches made as you wait. Chicken Cordon Bleu sandwich with some chips and a craft beer or expresso sitting outside at an umbrellas table is a treat.

Found this gem looking for ice cream. They offered 5 flavors of ice cream from a local creamery. Servings were huge. They also offered any flavor of Spring Grove pop over vanilla icecream for a float! I got Purple Cow (black raspberry w/ chocolate chunks) and my husband got Cookie Dough. Both winners! We also got some Cashew Clusters that were amazing. They (along with several types of chocolate candies) were made by a nearby Amish community. YUM! Service was friendly and there was seating in the place as well as outside. Great find!

Drove through the town by chance on our way along the Mississippi River and stopped because of the scenic view at the harbor. Took a stroll down the main street and stumbled across this little gem of a shop - which turned out to have a great selection of local cheese, meets, ready-to-go-meals/salats, wine-by-the-glass, oils, crackers, pestos etc. etc. It was such a joy to visit - I am ashamed to admit, I took so many pictures, that the storeowner thought I might be a reporter writing an article about their store. I wish I was, cuz this place is awesome! But in the end, I am just a very curious Dane with a great love for local food :)

By the Spoonful is a cross between a deli and a take and bake store. There are many prepared foods to take home and bake. They all looked interesting and delicious. There's a large selection of local wines, which we tried, and very interesting looking sandwiches. We tried several kinds of the cookies, which were very good. It's a fun place to look around and discover something new. You definitely don't want to miss it if you're in McGregor.

Katie, the owner, is a wonderful hostess. By the Spoonful features locally grown food and beverages. A must stop whenever in the area. Great coffee and delicious sandwiches which are homemade. All must make it a point to stop in and sample the cuisine and visit with the staff.

A sweet little shop where you can get a morning coffee/latte, a sandwich or soup for lunch or just grab all the fixings' you need to make lunch at home as well as great provisions for dinner. Beautiful Meats & Fish in the freezer along with side dishes or complete meals homemade for you in advance to 'take & bake.' They have quite a selection of Edgewood Meat Locker meats to choose from or assorted beer & wine.
If you need a gourmet gift or the perfect condiment they have that as well with an elaborate assortment of mustards, chutneys, relishes, dips, etc. You can also just grab freshly sliced cheese to go! A little bit of everything, yet all first class products!

Katie has a wonderful shop full of home-made, locally and regionally sourced products! First time in I picked up delicious Edgewood brats (many flavors to choose from) and sumptuous Sidecar Roasters coffee beans! The reach-in is stocked with ready-to-go dinner entrees, there's a deli counter and also a great selection of wine and beer on the shelves! Friendly atmosphere!

We shop for all our meals at By the Spoonful when we stay in McGregor! Katie's delicious gourmet sandwiches for lunch, locally-made brats for breakfast (try the cheesy hashbrown brats), Spoonful has everything!

If you are in McGregor, you have you have to stop at By the Spoonful. Stopped and picked up a picnic lunch and went to Pike's Peak State Park. Today, went back and bought some frozen meals to take home and some fabulous appetizer dips. Might go back again before I leave the area.

We stopped here and got sandwiches, chips, and beer to take to eat in the nearby state park. Great selection of sandwiches and drinks. Also lots of great local meats, cheeses, and other foods. Lots of samples in the store. Store owner was very friendly; gave us ideas on best places to stay in town.
