Fun quilt shop. There are not as many things to do in South Amana but we spent quite a while looking at all the quilts. Great fun, worth the stop

They must have over 4,000 bolts of fabric, so if you are a quilter you need to stop here. There are also fabulous digitally printed fabrics available. The only drawback is that if you have knee/leg problems climbing up the stairs to the fabric is a bit difficult, but the hand rails are sturdy and it's worth going upstairs to see all the goodies.

When we drove the loop around the seven Amana Colony villages (in March, 2020) we found hardly anything open outside of the village of Amana. Pretty much everything in the other little villages were closed. When we reached South Amana and turned the corner from Hwy 6 to 220, we saw this beautiful old building right there and had to stop. The lady running the place told us it was the old general store, and it is a really big one. Three floors are filled with all sorts of goods and gifts galore. Handmade artwork to antique items to cards and picture frames. The top floor is filled with quilting supplies and quilts for sale. I really enjoyed the historical nature of the building while my wife shopped for unique quilting pieces to take home. I am sure while the general store was in it's original operation, the owner family lived upstairs. There are so many rooms upstairs, it made me think this was a family of a dozen children - OR- more than one family was housed here in those days. It is is a great stop no matter what you are looking for.

On the way from Chicago to Des Moines we decided to make a detour around Amana Colonies. We were actually looking for a coffee shop, but then we came across this "gift shop" that turned out to be so much more. A mishmash on three floors; colourful fabrics on the upper floor, antiques in the basement and gifts, coffee corner and fudge shop on the main floor. I'm not usually so much for these kind of places, but even I enjoyed the visit. We had a coffee with home made rhubarb and pecan pies topped with ice cream. Fantastic.

An amazing store. Everyone is sure to find something. New and antique merchandise, quilts and quilting supplies, gardening items, statuary, fudge, candy, rugs, bags, soaps,home decor, and so much more. Custom made quilt fabrics and pre-made kits. Don't pass this place up. It's a must see!

Whenever I'm in the Amana Colonies or the Iowa City area I stop by here for fabric. I don't quilt, but I do sew, and they have some of the most gorgeous fabrics I've every seen. Also a very nice gift selection on the first floor.

If you are looking for beautiful calico or if you make quilts, the top floor is filled with thousands of bolts of fabric. It's a riot of color! Main floor has gifts, jewelry, some lotions and soaps, the basement has interesting antiques. A bit spendy, but something for everyone.

I really enjoyed this store. It was the first store we went to in Amana and it had a lot of variety for everyone. The store is big and takes time to see everything but it was well worth the visit.

If you're a quilter the entire second floor is devoted to that. The remainder of the store is stocked full ceiling to floor and wall to wall of interesting items, furniture, clothing, nick naks, architectural pieces, dishes, antiques, you name they have it. I highly recommend a stop here.
