“So Much History in this Museum”

我们没有计划的影响到这里的,只是一条路线66公路之旅。 但是我们在市里的一个停在路由66游客中心和一个机会遇到一个女的是谁推荐一个参观这个博物馆引起了我们的兴趣。 没有让我们失望。 对于一个小镇,这是一个相当大的博物馆都安排得很好还有清楚的显示和它将跨越多年和许多话题。 有一般的特定历史和历史老店,包括挖掘,内战, wwi ,二战,社会列,衣服,还有更多。 "信息速查"的卡是一个不错的方式的一个亮点显示如果你没有时间,或不想去,就去阅读。 楼下提供了更多的历史遗迹和文物: 棒球,汽车,火车。 太多了。 一个可以花几个小时在这里如果你花时间去阅读和探索整个博物馆。

Marvelous gem of a museum! Worth a tip on Route 66.

I’m so glad we stopped at this marvelous gem of a museum. Joanne greeted us with a warm smile, and helped set us up for a great visit. There is so much to see here and you need at least an hour to do it justice. I wish I had a couple of hours to spend here and hope I find myself back in this part of the country again. The displays are informative and engaging - and cover everything from the native Americans to Baxter Springs history as Cowtown, to the civil war, to an historic bank front, fully intact historic classroom, and marvelous military exhibits. Don’t miss the lower floor and the replica Main Street store fronts in the basement. We thoroughly enjoyed it.

This is a must do if you are in the area. Attendants were very welcoming. The museum is so much bigger than I anticipated! And free! We did leave a donation. So many different things to see. Don't forget to go in the basement. While I was skeptical about going down the stairs, some of our favorite exhibits were down there!

Amazing given the size of the town!

What an great museum. It is so far above what I'd expect from this size of a town. The staff was extremely helpful. We were given a map; which was needed to make sure we saw everything. It covers the history of Baxter Springs from the mid-1800s (founding) up to the present. There are a wide range of exhibits and various rooms throughout with both a lot of memorabilia and artifacts, yet also signs explaining what things are. There are 2 full floors; and a few small things outside. We saw everything; it took 2.5 hours. Great tour through the last 160 years of middle America.

Hidden gem

We were actually looking for something else when we saw this place. It was interesting because it didn’t look at all like a museum from the outside - it’s in the middle of a residential area so really wasn’t expecting a museum. We had time and it was raining so we said let’s check it out - I believe it was free or donation.

I was blown away by what is packed in here - twenty thousand square feet of exhibits. They are very well organized and it’s bigger then it looks from the outside!

The Baxter Springs Historical Museum is filled with exhibits depicting the various stages of the city's history from the days of the Osage Indians through the Civil War and the lead and zinc mining era.

Stayed longer then we expected and enjoyed all the history and exhibits.

Great activity to do on a rainy wet day!

Great place to hang out for hours, friendly staff, very informative about history of the area. So many interesting things to check out.

Wide ranging exhibits

We kinda just happened upon this museum, and what a great find it is! There are a wide range of exhibits from Civil War history to town history to collections of all kinds of tools and displays of everyday life in the past. A very enjoyable way to spend a couple hours.

Lots of history in this city and whole area. The museum was very organized and displayed well. The way people lived back 150 years ago. Gives us appreciation where we are today. They change things often so worth going back. Time much to grasp in one visit

Amazing!

This is a very well organized small town museum with very complete displays with good descriptions on displays. The hostess was very friendly and helpful. Be prepared to learn about of the Baxter Springs. It is very well worth your time if you enjoy local history. Good stop on a day trip to Cherokee County KS.

Unexpected Treasure of a Museum

This is our home town museum and I have visited it often and taken my second graders there for many field trips. It is an amazing place.

This is a neat place

Civil war stuff, 1930’s kitchen & old dentist room, mining part, war memorabilia, general store room, old beauty shop, just a bit of everything so you can see how life used to be. Old wagon, old fire engine, a cabin. Nice place to visit. It is free & has a donation box. Think it would be great place for older kids to learn or any adults. We enjoyed it.
