Majestueux, ce glacier est facilement accessible par un sentier qui nous mène au lac glacière, un spectacle grandiose, la Nature s'écrit encore ici avec un grand "N"

This is truly an overlooked gem in south Iceland. We visited on a sunny late afternoon and it was absolutely breathtaking. In my opinion it's much more beautiful than the often-mentioned Solheimajokull. Be sure to walk past the lake toward the left for more spectacular views. A glacier lagoon is forming there, and we also saw an arctic fox. Don't miss it!

Met de auto kan je er goed dichtbij komen. Sommige delen op het eind zijn met veel zwart gruis. Het meertje aan de voet is klein. Voetpaden zijn goed aangegeven. Heel fraai gezicht. Gelukkig bij nu is de regen opgehouden en dus een droog wandeling.

E' una lingua di un ghiacciaio molto vicina al ring e al quale si arriva a piedi da un parcheggio dopo una breve camminata.
C'è una laguna glaciale dove ci sono dei piccoli iceberg, non avvicinatevi al ghiacciaio senza una guida autorizzata può essere molto pericoloso.
Non ho visto escursioni organizzate e quindi ho trovato una atmosfera di pace e serenità ancora maggiore.
Secondo me è una tappa che merita tra lo Skaftafell NP e la laguna Jokulsarlon
C'è una laguna glaciale dove ci sono dei piccoli iceberg, non avvicinatevi al ghiacciaio senza una guida autorizzata può essere molto pericoloso.
Non ho visto escursioni organizzate e quindi ho trovato una atmosfera di pace e serenità ancora maggiore.

Merita la sosta. Credo che il vecchio percorso sia stato chiuso ma cque ci si arriva bene. Si parcheggia l'auto (gratuito) e si cammina per circa 10/15 minuti fino ad arrivare a vedere il ghiacciaio. Si può proseguire fino a toccarlo. La laguna qui è marrone.

Que dire devant une telle immensité et une telle masse glacière ... il faut s’asseoir et regarder ... les couleurs de la glace virent du blanc au gris en passant par le bleu... extraordinaire !

While most people directly go to Skaftafell National Park, this glacier is not to be missed. You can get very close to the steep glacier, and touch the huge ice cubes on the edge of the glacial lagoon. Absolutely stunning, and there is hardly anyone around.

Von der Ringstraße aus ist dieser Gletscher zu sehen und wir haben spontan einen Abstecher dorthin gemacht. Die Leuchtkraft des Eises ist schon überwältigend schön. Absolut sehenswert und nicht sooo viele Besucher wie an anderen Spots.

The 2km road that leads to the glacier from highway 1 is quite bumpy. We did it on a small 2WD hatchback very slowly (~20km/h) in winter.

Four-wheel drive is definitely required if you go off the road at all. Also, check your rental insurance as some damage is not covered especially to the undercarriage of the car.

I'm trying to figure out how much time it will take to see and explore this glacier. Some reviews are saying it's a short five minute walk from the car park, while others are saying it is quite difficult, slippery and you need to be prepared to hike a long distance uphill. Is there part of the glacier you can hike to that's farther away or something?

The glacier itself is heavily crevassed and I would not try to climb on it without proper equipment. There's a plaque at the base of the path memorializing 2 German hikers who went on the glacier some years ago - and never came back. That said, you can walk quite some distance up the path (which runs alongside the glacier). There may be some rock scrambling, depending on how far up you go. The road from the main highway to the parking area is quite bumpy and full of holes; you must drive slowly but you do not need 4WD to do it.
