We stopped to see the prairie dogs and they were out all over their "town" area on a cool June evening. There's also an historic sod house and school building, not to mention camping/swimming/hiking, which we didn't do. We did have a nice picnic at the shelter.

September 2019 on the way to Rapid City S.D. from Manhattan, KS, this location is a treasure to just to crash in. The day we had stop was a breezy warm day, just a few walking steps to a nearby park overlooking a lake. So nice to unwind and felt so refresh afterward from that long drive. In fact, after 45 minutes soaking up warm sun rays, mixed with constant breeze and all, I just didn't want to move. call 785-877-2953 ,we used reserveAmerica.com

Enjoy after trips just to soak up the sun and watch the wildlife. Taking a drive in the evening you will find all kinds of animals like deer, praire dogs,and wild turkeys . Nice

We camped last year and noticed the new sites on the Ridge. We were able this year to book a site on the ridge and it was very quiet with lots of room and no one on either side of us. We were there on a weekday and in August. This area is not close to a toilet or shower building but we had no need for those.

Nice outdoor prairie campground from what we were able to experience. Established trees, Kind, accommodating, and courteous staff. Even saw a few deer BUT......
1. The bug problem was the WORST I’ve encountered in 5 years of RV camping. Come on Kansas we can do better. Lake or not, control this so people will want to visit this park and enjoy what beauty “our” state has to offer. It’s impossible the way it is now:(
We had over 100 flying insects inside our RV that had to be gotten rid of before secluding ourselves in doors for the night. Bug candles didn’t scare away these insects!!
2. No lighted pathways to the restroom made for dangerous walking. Cleaner bathrooms/showers would have been nice.
3. Went for a run early the next morning so I could try to enjoy some of the scenery but insects so bad I had to turn around.....
4. Didn’t dare venture out to the beautiful lake because of the bug problem. Feel like I’ve missed out on so much of beautiful Kansas nature due to this one thing.
Unfortunately the way the campground is now I would not make a return visit. Control the bugs and we would come back. It is beautiful.

Had a great day at practice dog state park Lane parking area for truck and boat trailer. Ramp is a steep one but plenty wide and long one is pretty rough surfaced but very usable good fish cleaning station and clean restrooms. Good fishing as well! Well be back.

Nice place, but waters use to be higher but farmers drained it a lot. Then not having much rains seems not to fill back up.

We camped here with our travel trailer & will do so again now that we are aware of what sites to choose. 1st of all we didn't need a water hookup but did expect that there would be would be a faucet to fill our container with but no faucet in the entire two acres of "lettered" sites & picnic pavilions. 2nd, & this was unexcusable since we arrived on a Monday evening, our site was covered in cigarette butts & bottle tops as well as the fire pit filled with garbage. We gathered it up and took it to the dumpster which was overflowing.

What a beautiful and well laid out park. It costs $5 for a car pass but worth it. Plenty of places to have lunch, playgroynd, water access to the reservoir and so clean. Of course, prarire dogs too. Sit under the shelter and watch them. So darn cute! Staff at info office very nice and helpful. There is a historic schoolhouse and an original adobe home. Worth the few minutes to check out. If I get the chance, would love to rent a cabin here. Saw birds and wild turkeys. Just relaxing.
