Lovely surrounds, plenty of wild kangaroos. Camp sites with fire pits and water views. Get in early to claim a good spot.

Cattai campground. A positive stay. We would return. Temps were very high when we visited, ie 38 degrees +, so we sat in the river in the shade of a tree and watched the ski boats go up and down the river. Mobs of kangaroos with 60 or so in each in the campground. A few in and around the campsite at night. Bike riding on the flat, dirt trail that winds through the campsite was a hit. Water dragons along the riverbank were interesting and not a safety issue for the kids at all. A good spot for the SUP or kayaks. No drinking water available, shower and toilet block was clean but had plenty of spiders and cicadas.

This was our first camping trip since moving to Sydney. The park is less than an hour drive from the Sydney North Shore so really accessible. Loads of kangaroos everywhere in the park, so a great way to show off the wildlife to new visitors. We'll be back!

We spent a night camping at the cattai national park. Since it was the Easter long weekend, the place was really crowded. But still, there were many good camping spots. Toilet and bathroom facilities are excellent. Even had hot water...!!!. But the best thing in the stay was the Kangaroos. Hundreds of wild Kangaroos come close to the camping sites and just eat grass and spend time. When you wake up in the morning you can see kangaroos from your tent. That was awesome.

Cattai National Park is right on the Hawkesbury River and offers some lovely camping spots in an area quite close to Sydney. It is probably busy at weekends but on a Friday afternoon it was beautifully quiet and peaceful.
Loads of birds around and lots of fairly tame kangaroos. This would be an ideal place to take visitors even if just for a BBQ and a wander around. Shelter sheds, electric BBQs and also some which use firewood. (I would suggest take some with you)
Nice little wharf on the riverbank. Would be a good place for a kayak or canoe.

Cattai National Park is ideally located for camping alongside the Hawkesbury river on north-west of Sydney.

Perfect for camping, fishing, and relaxing. There are shelters with cooking facilities which you can pre-book for a nominal fee. Bring along your own tents if you would like to go more natural as there are plenty of spaces for camping. Hordes of kangaroos wander lazily about, making a perfect Aussies landscape. Variety of birds can also be seen among them are eastern whipbird, bell miner, golden whistler etc.

Mind you there are no grocery stores or cafes on site, so better come loaded with water bottles and munchies. A$8 entry fee is quite reasonable considering what you get in the bargain. Toilets are clean and well maintained.

Our picnics more than once have been spoilt by angry, grumpy and bad mannered rangers (one in particular) - who hassled us in a very unbecoming way

We have many family gatherings - but have decided that in future - NEVER again at Cattai park - (unless there is drastic changes with staff)

Maybe they are "doing their job" - but with all things - there is a courteous way to go about it...... we felt unhappy and upset by their needless demands and personal comments

Gorgeous camping spot sitting along the Hawkesbury River in North-West Sydney. Organised well, split into a camper section and a day-tripper section, both with lots of picnic shelters and cooking facilities, as well as toilets. It can get quite busy, as we experienced on NYE, but it was still a comfortable stay. Loads of relaxed kangaroos wander around among the hordes, adding to the riparian scenery.

The only issues are the noisy motorcraft that fly past, although this is not constant, and that swimming is not really practicable here.

This is one of the places around Sydney in which kangaroo spotting is known to be relatively easy. Otherwise, it offers a nice river and bush, and a campground with just basic services. We did not go for camping, but rather had visitors that wanted to see kangaroos. We took them to Cattai, and indeed we could spot many of them.

Cattai National Park is a bit way out from the city but a good spot for some birdwatching. Found the bell miner, scarlet honey eater, sacred kingfisher, golden whistler and Eastern whipbird. There are no shops for food or water, so bring your own.The toilets were clean and the park has sufficient parking.
