Stopped in Stockton, Ks. and visited this museum just to do family research. They have a good genealogy section but the museum displays absolutely blew us away - for such a small town (population about 1,300) this museum has professionally put together displays showing everything from a country one room school house display to a medical clinic setup to a very touching display about a local lad who went off to WWI, was hit with mustard gas and came home shell shocked - the communities back then didn't know how to handle such veterans and the resulting story about this local hero is both touching and sad - still it's part of the local history. Even though it's 40 miles off I-70, it's a very good stop for history buffs or any others simply interested in the early days of Kansas. The paid and volunteer staff at this museum are excellent.
