If you enjoy history and love older homes this is the tour for you. My wife and I took the tour and thouroughly enjoyed ourselves. Our tour guide Amy did an excellent job taking us throughout the home and other buildings. She was very knowledgeable about the property and it was a very educational tour. Thanks Amy! The price is right also!

This farm house is very unique in that it’s been in the family for over 150 years, they were hoarders and pretty much everything in the house is original. Cathy led our tour and she was knowledgeable about the home and family (although my head was spinning at the end trying to keep family members straight). The biggest issue I had was that the group was too large. We purchased tickets in advance but were lumped in with a large group tour of over 20 people. Even though they split the group in half, there were still 12 people in our group cramped into teeny tiny rooms. Here’s a suggestion: Accommodate large group tours with special hours so they can see the house themselves. Don’t punish individual guests by lumping them in with the group.

My husband and I travelled to the area for a long weekend, and, as we love historic homes, we decided to visit Dinsmore. Since we were the only visitors at the time we arrived, we were fortunate enough to receive a private tour of this unique property. Other reviews of Dinsmore gave us the impression that it was "nothing special," but those reviewers could not have been more wrong. What makes Dinsmore so interesting is that it was owned by the same family from its construction before the Civil War until it was opened to the public in the 1980s. That means that every artifact that is displayed belonged to the family, and the entire time when the farm was a private enterprise is documented in over 90,000 pages of letters and journals written through the generations. The Dinsmores had so many connections to the rich and famous of the nineteenth and twentieth centuries that their story is fascinating. Members of the clan feel such a strong connection to the land that even now they are brought back to Kentucky to be buried with their ancestors on the hill. Having toured many house museums through the years, it takes a lot to come up with an artifact we have not seen before, but we were introduced to two unfamiliar pieces used by the Dinsmores. There is a real feeling that Dinsmore is not so much a museum as a home. It is well worth the time and nominal admission fee required to tour this beautiful farm.

After reading reviews on the Dinsmore Estate, my sister and I decided to visit this historical sight. My goodness, what a treat! Our tour guide was so knowledgeable and gracious and encouraged us to ask as many questions as possible! We will definitely return!

I live relatively close to Dinsmore but never visited. My children went there on their school field trips years ago. I decided to visit it one afternoon.

My family and I visited this homestead last spring, and I meant to write a review then. We LOVED touring this house and the property. We had a private tour, and our tour guide was fantastic! What we all liked about this house was that everything was authentic. It was like we stepped back in time into someone's house. There were old books, pictures, furniture, and so on. The family cemetery on the property was awesome too. We will definitely go back!

Cathy led us on a passionate trip through history with a semiprivate tour of the grounds which could not have been more pleasant. Her command of the subject was exquisite. The place was fascinating and a highlight was a 100+ year old music book. A gem for Boone county. After the tour we enjoyed a 1.8 mile walk around the grounds.

We've been several times but the last visit this fall was so fabulous. The entire piece of property is just peaceful and gorgeous.

Guided tour of home of the Dinsmore family in the 1800s in rural Boone County, KY. Tour guides extremely knowledgeable and give you a taste of what life was like in the middle 1800s. Especially recommend visiting during the fall for the fall colors and apple cider. Small admission price helps maintain this historical property. Great for children to see what life must have been like without cell phones, electricity and other modern inventions.
