Beautiful State Park! The Lake and Dam are very nice! This state park is not near any large towns. It does have some mom and pop places to eat, a little hardware store, and mainly a Dollar General. Make sure you have the main essentials. If you are on a special diet, make sure to bring what you need! This is the place you want to be to "hang out on the lake and be with nature!" Campgrounds and beaches were nice.
If you love nature, lakes, fishing and weekend getaways, this is the place to be!

Thoroughly enjoyed our visit to Rough River State Park this week. Just looking for a nearby virus getaway with our grandchildren (ages 7 and 8) who enjoy the great outdoors. We rented a deluxe cabin - two bedrooms with comfortable beds, two full baths, spacious kitchen, great living room space, back deck, fire pit, and picnic table. Great accommodations, very comfortable and clean. Prepared our meals at the cabin. Hiking, mini golf, playground, frisbee golf course, scary stories at night around the fire pit, painted rocks - create your own fun.
The Park and restaurant are operating on a limited basis due to the virus, but don't let that hold you back. The staff is wonderful and very responsive to any need we had during our stay. Enjoy this wonderful place.

Amazing time thanks to my parents for allowing us to use their house a great time was had by all and even got the boat ride although it was a little cool

Great park and the state lodge restaurant is very good. The marina is clean and has a great area for the kiddos to feed the fish. We were able to catch a free outdoor concert

We stay at the state park for special events about twice a year. We go there VERY frequently to be on the lake and to eat at Grayson’s Landing. Very relaxing!!

Lots of trails. I like to bank fish and there are miles of shoreline fishing available. Water is unbelievably clear. Played Frisbee golf. Not well, but I did play it. Great staff.

The place could use some upgrading but the friendly staff make up for it. They bend over backward to make guests feel at home. We utilize one of their conference rooms a couple of times a year and they really go out of their way to make us comfortable.

husband and I chose this area because we had not been there before. We could only handle one night , decided to leave and go elsewhere. The entire facility is dated, no landscaping , nothing to enhance the beautiful water and surroundings. Over the last few years the parks we have stayed at are all was in dire need of upgrades. The cottage interior was dark, dated, old furniture that is uncomfortable hard, mattresses and old bedding. The bath room is small , dated as well. With the beauty of Kentucky it is a shame

Two college roommates and I recently turned 65! What better way to celebrate than spending a long weekend relaxing on Rough River! We stayed at the lodge from Thursday through Sunday and had a ball! Our rooms were very clean and staff most accommodating. This park has something for everyone...boating, picnic area, tennis court, beach area and playground! We enjoyed the pool, rented a pontoon and thoroughly enjoyed a great seafood buffet! Much of the outdated decor mentioned in other posts had been replaced. Desk staff were very helpful and service oriented! This would be a great place for a family trip! We booked our next stay in a cottage before we left!!

We stayed here at the beginning of the season so maybe that's why some things didn't seem quite "ready". The rooms are fine and clean and have nice balconies but are dated in terms of decor. The sink and bathroom area is cramped. None of the ice machines worked but we did get some ice from the restaurant. Our friends found wasps in their room and were told that this was a known problem. We did not realize that at least some "lodge" rooms were not in the main building and that we would be in an annex where you enter the rooms from the outside like a motel. This might not normally be a big deal but it was storming pretty hard the night we arrived. We had issues with our TV and found out you have to push the buttons in a certain order a specific number of times. If that can't be fixed, some directions in the room would be helpful. We had to call the front desk. The service was very friendly and helpful. The lodge has a nice, large common area with chairs, couches and a big fireplace. Because of the weather we did not get to really enjoy the park itself so I can't comment on the trails or other amenities.
