Absolutely delightful museum, jam packed with fascinating military history as well as history pertaining to Fort Thomas. On the grounds of the local VA hospital there are many original building still standing used as private homes now.. The grounds are
beautiful, a great place for a stroll,or picnic. Knowledgeable volunteers who ar eager to tour!

Fort Thomas was an active military base from 1890 until 1950. Thereafter it housed an Army Reserve unit, VA Nursing Home, and Selective Service induction center. The water tower has been turned into a monument to the 6th Infantry which served in the Spanish American War. The museum tells this story and much more about how the post and the nearby community interacted. Need about an hour to tour unless you getting talking to the staff and then the time flies.

This is a very nice military themed museum with some special exhibits focused on local events. The people running this place are very dedicated to preserving and growing the museum. The exhibits are very interesting and we got a very good tour as well. It takes less than an hour and you can learn a lot.

This museum is showcased in the home of the caretaker when it was a working military base. The museum allows people in the area learn more about their surroundings and the history of Ft. Thomas. There are historical rooms and educational rooms, like the science room. It will only take about an hour to go through.

This is an absolutely great little museum that tells the wonderful history of the old Fort Thomas (The West Point of the West). Tons of artifacts all with a local flair. Built on the grounds of the military installation the museum is a wonderful piece of history and military and history buffs will absolutely be delighted. Lots of military "stuff" located within.
Built during the civil war the installation remained in use thru the 1970's. Many of the buildings still stand and can be viewed as part of the walking tour. The volunteers at the museum are locals that can answer all kinds of questions. The area of Fort Thomas was active before the civil war and has a colorful history involving the underground railroad era, the civil war and the first two world wars and the gangster era when Newport rivaled Vegas.
Fort Thomas (the city) is a very upscale and fashionable area with plenty of dining options within walking distance of the museum and grounds. It is now known as Tower Park because of the unique water tower built there for the fort.
Well worth a look.
