The story of this museum is great history and the volunteer telling us the history was great .
However, the museum itself is not being kept clean and orderly and in safe conditions .
The staging of the rooms not good.
Is worth the stop for the history .

we didn’t invest in the tour, opting instead to invest in a quick picture of the outside and move on.

This was a neat stop. Parking is free, it is extremely cheap for just a house tour ($5), and the lady volunteering there, Debby, was so knowledgeable about both the history and the paranormal stuff - that is her forte. They have authentic artifacts from the Civil War, as both Union and Confederate Soldiers occupied the house. It is worth going for any history buff and by the amount of ghost hunting visitors, by evident of the signed photos from famous shows, I'd say that would be interesting to do as well.

My SIL is very interested in the supernatural and this was on our list of things to show her. One of the only Octagon Houses still standing is itself a place to see. Add the ghosts and you have a win win. We took a tour and everyone that was there felt something. The grounds are well maintained and the house is being slowly restored to its grandeur. A must see in Franklin ,KY

I visited on an overcast day in October and the somewhat deteriorating state of the building (at least the external wood parts) was quite concerning. The actual main body of the house is very solid and in pretty good condition for its age. What concerned me most was the somewhat sorry state of the Library/Archives in the basement. It struck me that if some conservation work of a serious nature isn't done here soon, a lot of irreplaceable history could be lost.
The whole story of the house is very much intertwined with the nostalgia associated with the "Lost Cause" of the Confederacy. A cause that was lost for good reason. So anyone who isn't in the frame of mind to adopt such a "nostalgic" frame of mind, and knows the social history surrounding the 1861-1865 conflict, will feel a bit on the uncomfortable side of things on a tour of the building.
However, all in all, it is a most interesting structure that needs more interaction with both the Franklin Genealogical and Historical Society AND the Kentucky Building at the nearby Western Kentucky University.

We booked the private overnight investigation for our group. $300 for a recommended group of 6. This was our third visit but we hadn’t been in about almost 6 years or so. I was heart broken to see that the former slave quarters cabin has fallen down. The front porch is rotting away and the basement is extremely moldy. (Bring mask or respiratory mask if you have allergies or lung issues). The grounds are becoming overgrown and markers in the cemetery are rotting. (I’ve gotten ticks every visit as well so put on repellent!) This is an amazing place full of history and interesting artifacts. It’s very haunted as well. Every ghost hunter of note has been here and every paranormal tv show. The owner and caretaker is older and having health issues. I implore the paranormal community to step in and save this gem.

We visited on Halloween and were more than a little disappointing to find that the term museum had been liberally applied. No real exhibition / interpretation and more of a haunted attraction with some antiques in desperate need of care. Not one we'd visit again.

This place was an amazing historical learning experience. With the place also being haunted my family and I got a really weird vibe in the kitchen room and started sweating. The owner told us this could happen because the spirits could make you feel weird! Overall it we had an amazing time and would go back just to get more pics and look around more.

Where do I begin? Owner smoking in house is crazy, So much unorganized clutter and stuff everywhere. Random items with no theme. Some things were very cool; some things straight from a flea market vendor... BUT the house and history are amazing, the slave quarters, Summer kitchen and graveyards were a fabulous bonus and you get to walk around and explore everything. Overall worth the $5 and I would even come back. Owners have a real gem here - hope they can get some funding and really make it amazing experience at some point

This is an interesting spot to visit although some find it 'underwhelming' as it doesn't get a ton of visitors and therefore isn't as polished as some historic sites. I recommend the fall haunted tours during October (groups of 10 or less - see their websit for schedule) and as a FYI - it will be featured on travel channel's new series 'haunted live.' Can't wait to see this!

The house is very interesting. But, we were so disappointed to enter this house and smell cigarette smoke! People were in the dinning room smoking away. We had work our way around these people at the table because they were not going to stop chatting or the let us pass by them easily. For someone who is terminally, the smoke was disgusting and hard to endure.
