I went on a Saturday around 11 AM. Nothing was open, but it was neat walking around to read the signs on the old buildings that comprise the "village." It was worth the drive to see it, but I would have loved to had taken a tour to learn more about it. I would recommend calling ahead, but definitely worth going.

The Magoffin County Historical Society have a massive amount of Genealogical research books, documents and research on Eastern KY families. They publish, print and sell many family name books. They have, over the years, rescued and reconstructed many early log cabins and it is called The Pioneer Village. It depicts the realistic life of early pioneers.

There are 19 Authentic Cabins on site that give a great insight into how the Pioneers lived. The log cabin structures serve as living history centers with displays and demonstrations of early crafts. There is a visitor centre and the lady that greeted me was very helpful. There is no charge to enter as the site is manned by volunteers, but it is recommended to leave a donation. So glad i spotted this as I passed through Salyersville.

My wife and family are from this area but she has not visited since she was a child. Could you please tell us where to stay and to do in the area. We are planning to visit in late September. If you could give us an idea of about how much time (minium) we should a lot for the Historical centre.

I would advise to stay in Paintsville. There are no motels in Salyersville. We have stayed at the Ramada Inn there several times. Time is hard to advise for the Magoffin County Historical Society [depends on you interest]. I would say at least a day in Salyersville. There is a visitors center in Paintsville that can help with maps, etc.
