Great collection of historical items to show what life was like in Stern. I am especially interested in life in the coal camps as my great, great grandparents lived and worked the mines.

I was expecting it to be more about coal mining and was a little disappointed. It's worth a stroll through if you are in the area and having lunch at the Whistle Stop

We went through the museum after a mine tour. Having seen the mine, lots of the museum displays made more sense. Tools, buildings etc. it’s quick and easy, well payed out and interesting. All volunteers and proceeds from the train tour and Whistle Stop restaurant help fund the museum.

We rode the train to Barthell Coal Camp and then came here. The museum touched on many of the things we learned from the mine tour and added more depth to our learning experience.

Local history of a company town, the Stearns family owners, and the workers. What I found most interesting was copies of pay checks, there was one for $0.00 and one for $ 0.04. That made me think about the Song "Sixteen Tons" "I owe my soul to the company store" sung originally by Tennessee Ernie Ford.
If you ride the train and take a tour of a mine shaft at Blue Heron or Barthells coal camp and see the equipment they used, you get a real appreciation of how brutal that work was! Good place to take kids!

Stopped in here after riding the train. What a neat place. Really shows the history the Stearns. The displays are interesting and full of great facts. I would highly recommend if in the area

Great local museum. Lots of great and interesting displays. Both young and old will enjoy this museum. Go back in time and learn about this area and coal mining. A definite must after the train ride.

A typical local history museum with several coal history exhibits. You get a ticket to the museum with your train ticket.

We gained admission through our railroad tickets. The docents were so accommodating; they kept the museum open an extra half hour since we were running late. There were many interesting exhibits.
