If you are in or near Eunice on a Saturday morning, you must visit the Savoy (French pronunciation Sav Wah) Music Center for their weekly Jam Sessions. Marc Savoy has been holding these for decades and the are free. Local musicians come and go and entertain you for up to 3 hours. The Cajun music is fantastic and the might even give you the opportunity to play the triangle!.

The Saturday morning jam session is a fantastic way to experience traditional Cajun music. There were about 15 musicians, mostly on fiddle and guitar, though also on accordion, piano, and steel guitar. It is very much an informal session, with lots of spontaneity. Stop by to visit this authentic and welcoming community of musicians!

Listen to some excellent Cajun music with some well known musicians and some just learning and some in between. People drop by to listen and even enjoy some boudin and pastries people bring. Great atmosphere. I stop by every Saturday morning when I am in the area.

Seems we end up here every year near March. So yet another excellent review.
This is a must stop when visiting Eunice.
We plan our trips to arrive on Friday and eat dinner at DI's Cajun place near Basile (a short drive from Eunice). Saturday morning at 9AM is the jam session at Savoy. Then Saturday night is more Cajun music and dancing at the Liberty Theater.
Makes you feel like you are, or should have been, a real Cajun.
Check Utube for some poor video of the Savoy jam session, and the liberty THeater. DI's restaurant also has a band and dancing on Thur - Sat night.
GO!

The owner of Le Village B&B recommended that we attend the Saturday morning jam session at her cousin’s music store. What a treat. As many as 19 local musicians entertained us for over two hours. It was for this very experience that we ventured out from New Orleans into Prarie Cajun Country. It was well worth the car rental and the drive. The CDs we purchased have now been sent on to a musician in Iceland that kindly sent me contemporary recordings of an Icelandic Christmas hymn, the words of which were written by my 10th great-grandfather in the late 1500s. I hope he enjoys the Cajun/zydeco music as much as we did at Mark’s Savoy Music Store in Eunice,LA.

We arrived a few minutes before 9 and parked nearby on the shoulder of US190 rather than in the smallish lot. Good thing; among the musicians there was a wheelchair and some canes, so I was glad they could park close to the building.
We had brought 5 lbs of boudin from T-Boy's, which went over very well. Others brought smaller boxes of boudin, some cracklings, and some doughnuts. The coffee pot was out, the donation box was on the counter, and ice cold cokes were available for a dollar. Mark Savoy and everyone else we met were very friendly and welcoming.
They were having a little trouble setting up the live streaming on the website, apparently a new feature, and had to call someone for help, but no doubt they will iron out the wrinkles soon, so the whole world wide web can enjoy this amazing gathering of traditional Cajun musicians.
There was a couple from New Orleans filming the action for a documentary about Louisiana music, probably to be released in a year or so. I hope we can find it.
The music started around 9:30. There isn't a stage, just a bunch of folding chairs laid out, one row along the wall facing the rest of the building, and some space between that row and several rows facing it. The front row filled up, quickly, as did the front row facing it. There was another row on one side. At one point I counted 5 fiddles, 6 guitars, 2 accordions, 2 mandolins, and a triangle. But the musicians came and went, so the numbers varied.
Over half the musicians were older experts, and the younger players were pretty good too, yeah. I was especially pleased to see a very young girl come in with her mother and younger sister, open up her violin case, and work hard to follow the experts. This is what it's all about, as noted in Mark's sign by the front of the room. Who knows, this young lady may turn out to be another Amanda Shaw.
My impression was that almost all of these musicians were good enough to play professionally, and judging by the conversations, many of them had. I expect that most of them were either retired or had a "day job." When you get 15 or 20 people jamming together and they are all keeping time and tune like they had rehearsed together, you know they are good. This was my first visit, so I don't know how often this group had played together, but it seemed like many of them were regulars, so maybe they have been rehearsing together. But they're still amazingly good.
I would like to be a regular, too. We "passed a good time, yeah!"

A friend had recommended this place over a year ago and we loved it so much, we travel to Eunice, LA from TX at least once a month to listen to music on Saturday mornings and then head out to other venue for a day filled w/great music.....thank you to the Savoy's for hosting this jam session!

This is one of the joys in our lives. Going to Eunice and listening to the Cajuns jam and preserving their music. French is spoken more than English, sometime celebrities show up, but we always feel welcome. Been going for over 20 years and never disappointed. Wish we'd been born there.

We went there for the Saturday morning jam session. There were about 10 fiddlers and a couple other instruments. They sounded like they were just learning, doing some very simple easy slow songs. We managed to stay for two songs. There were just as many people leaving as coming in. Parking is on a busy highway.
