Stunning Wildlife Scene

This was absolutely beautiful. It has clearly paved paths and board walks over the bayou that take you out to the actual lake that the park is named after. In just a short 30 minutes, I was able to see two cranes, a gator, many indigenous bird species, plenty of fish, dragonflies, and so much more. You can’t go to Louisiana a visit to the swamplands!

Beautiful As Always.

This was my 2nd time going to Black Bayou. We liked going in the morning at sunrise for some great gator spotting, bird watching, and amazing sunrise photos.

Nice Trails and Boardwalk

We spent an hour here enjoying a warm and sunny afternoon on the trails and boardwalk near the closed visitor center. All were marked and in good condition. The cypress knees, the bayou, and the Spanish moss were nice to see.

Kayaking on Black Bayou

What a fun day on Black Bayou. Lots of fishermen out trying their luck too. Very easy trip that can last as long as you want. We stayed close in but there is plenty of shoreline to explore.

Weekend adventure

We took a couple days and drove down to Monroe. First stop was at the Black Bayou Lake. We had our 5 grands with us ranging from 13 to 18 and just intended to do a little hiking around the trails. Unfortunately the visitors center was closed because of Corvid, but we walked out to the observation deck. While out there my grandson leaned over the rail and lost his glasses. One of the employees at the refuge came to our rescue, muddled through the swamp and rescued them. He went over and beyond what was ever expected of him to make our visit a memorable and pleasant one.

We were on a road trip from Georgia to Texas. I investigated different places we could stop along the way. So glad I discovered this little hidden jewel. It was only about seven miles from the interstate and kind of tucked away on a side road. The volunteer at the visitor center was super nice telling us exactly where to go and what to see. We did not have much time, but took a stroll down to the side of the pier that is still usable. ( They are making repairs so you could not go all the way across) If you have time they will even rent out a canoe or kayak so that you can explore. There were a few hiking trails to explore too. I enjoyed seeing the bayou and if our travels take us that way again, we plan to spend a little more time exploring this area.

A walk to stretch our legs

This is a wonderful refuge full of trails and certianly full of birdlife
We saw many species of birds despite it being winter. Beautiful grounds and visitor center staffed with a informative and friendly volunteer. A must stop

All of Louisiana’s beauty in one stop

This refuge is breath taking. The tour guides are wonderfully knowledgeable and energetic. I loved the way this park is tucked neatly in the middle of Monroe and Sterlington but you can’t hear any traffic. Pack a lunch and spend the day.

A Nature treasure!

I can only say wow. What an amazing experience to see the natural wonders of a Louisiana Bayou. I took literally several hundred photos the one afternoon/evening I got to spend here. Gators, snakes, dragonflies, sunset to die for. The wooden walking "dock" made it very easy to get up close. I want to put in a good word for the Gift Shop too. I love the t-shirt I was able to get! I will definitely be back to Black Bayou on my next trip to the Monroe area.
