This park will give you an absolute southern Louisiana experience! From the beautiful cypress trees, fan palms and other flora to the owls in the evening and alligators sunning themselves in the afternoon. We were here the end of January and temps were quite comfortable and mosquito activity was almost nil.
I only wish we were able to have cell phone service or at least texting to check on family members. It is very spotty in the park.
But with that said, I would highly recommend a trip to the park for a bit of personal solitude.

We had a day trip here for our family reunion. My brother-in-law had his camper parked at a site just 25 yards from one of the small fishing piers. We were near the bathhouse which was incredibly clean. It was so sparkling it looked like no one had used it. There was no odor, which is s first for my visits to a state park bathroom.
My 11& 14 year old nephews liked the fishing even though the bream were all small. The rangers were super friendly and gave us clearly marked maps to find our family’s site. No mosquitoes bothered us. Yeah! We had a wonderful time with our family in nature. Just watch out for the poison ivy.

In LaFayette, LA for a few days, wanted a bayou experience. Husband picked this park. Neat drive here into sugar cane farming territory: sugar cane fields abound and we saw the machine harvesting it, saw the trucks filled with it. Had never seen that, so neat. Also saw "houseboat compounds" on this lake, a sight to see. Got caught in downpour while hiking, water all over trail, shoes soaked. Some elevated parts. Not for kids: poison ivy ALL OVER THE TRAILS. No gators, but they are hibernating this time of year, so just not gonna see 'em now. Nice to experience a Louisiana state park with some nature. No nature center, really nothing other than trails (and raised cabins for rental). Glad we ventured beyond LaFayette.

I believe the park is currently closed due to damage from the flood last fall (2016). Call before you go. Otherwise, it is our favorite camping destination (we are 25 minutes from there, hard to beat). Anyway, the cabins are nice, all are waterfront. The hiking trails are well maintained and permit bicycles. Canoes are available for rent and there is a boat ramp if you have your own boat. The camp sites are spacious with trees for shade and there are two play grounds for the little ones. The restrooms/bath houses could use an update and maybe that is being done during the closure. We hope it opens up again soon.

This park is a little gem. Great camping and beautiful canoeing. It wasn't very crowded when we were there.

just in case you are not doing heavy duty research (we did not because it was on the way between two other activities) this place was flooded in August 2016 and very little of it is open, campgrounds, playgrounds, walking trails. Looks like they are working hard on reopening so check before you go.

Lake Fausse Point State Park is really awesome for a family who wants to stay in a cabin in an absolutely gorgeous natural environment and who likes to relax and fish. There are advertised elements of this park I will advise against or give a heads up on but let me talk first about the wonderful points of this park. It is located in one of the most unique and beautiful environments in our state, the Atchafalaya Basin. This is a swamp mind you-and you have to tread carefully. The cabins are affordable and very clean and comfortable. There is a huge screened in deck with ceiling fans and rocking chairs, an open private peer for fishing all day and a fishing boat launch if you need one. You can also throw out some crab traps. The wildlife is amazing and we really enjoyed the birds, deer and various other swamp critters. The swamp sounds at night are incredible. The water is for fishing and (for those with experience) boating. You do NOT SWIM or get in a boat or canoe if you don't have solid experience with boating. There are alligators everywhere. Tons of midsize ones between 4-6 feet and a handful of the big daddies about 10-12 feet. The gators will swim right up to your deck and the pier. You do NOT take pets to this park. Your dog will be eaten. Alligators are not to be messed with and feeding them is stupid and dangerous. But if you act like a reasonable person and respect the nature, this is an awesome experience. You can hear the bull alligators bellowing and the bullfrogs singing. At night you can stand on your deck and shine a flash light into the swamp and see dozens (or more) pairs of red eyes staring back at you. The ones in the water are most likely gators an the ones on land or in the trees can be anything from wild cats to coons to giant frogs to opossums.
The canoe trails are are fun but not for novices. We took the kids with us but we really had to be vigilant. There are submerged trees that could dump your canoe and if you fall in the swamp there is no "shoreline" to swim to for safety. The swamp edge is filled with snakes and sleeping gators and poison ivy. There are parts of the canoe trials that are much tamer and easier to navigate and others that could be a bit daunting even to a professional. I would advise adults to scout out a tame course in their canoe before taking the kids along. The supposed "fishing piers and picnic spots" along the canoe trails are pitiful and difficult to access. Don't count I them as a rest stop.
Their are walking trails as well but I would never suggest using them between May and September. They are filled with mosquitoes and poison plants in the long summer months but the rest of the year would be awesome for a hike. The splash pad and the nature center advertised on the website are closed until further notice- victims of budget cuts. If you know this ahead of time you won't be disappointed.
My family wanted: a great cabin in a real swamp, a place to fish, a beautiful natural environment, something within two hours of an urban area, a comfortable place to relax with the kids away from the distractions of regular life and a chance to be contact with Louisiana nature. For three days we stayed and Lake Fausse Point really delivered on those needs. I wish the canoe trails were better marked and accommodated, I wish the trails were better kept up. There was no cell service or wifi but that was just fine by us. We had TV but we didn't need it. TV couldn't compete with the scenery. The whole trip was very affordable and we will absolutely go back.

My son had his Boy Scout event in the park this weekend and we were lucky enough to rent a cabin for two nights . Just to able to get the kids into an environment with no wifi and very little phone service is a godsend..... We love it here!!

My husband and I took our sons and a friend camping with us. The boys rented a canoe to fish all over. At our site we chose, we had our own peer, tons of fish and alligators. That was most of our entertainment. We have tons of pictures of them.
Plenty of trails for biking and hiking. Wonderful playground for younger children.
Staff are helpful and very nice.
Will go back again.

Hi, I am not quite sure. I know they have a few pavilions available.
The pavilions are in beautiful spots, one is close to a play ground and the other is a little secluded.
I hope this helps you out some. Good luck.

Can I rent the meeting center and add additional hours? It will be for a wedding but would like a evening wedding.
