Please make sure you go online 2 weeks before your trip and complete a background check and get approval as the museum is on a military base. Needless to say we didn’t get a chance but I bet it would be wonderful!

Barksdale has a really impressive static display. You don't often see large bombers as part of museum displays, but there are multiple huge aircraft here. Several B52's that you can walk under and touch, and an SR-71 that never fails to impress everyone. Prepare to do some walking, as the planes are spread out over a large area. This is an active USAF base, so if you're lucky you'll get to see B52's taking off a few yards away from the displays. Inside the museum there are some really interesting displays (one of our favorites was the 9/11 room).
You MUST plan ahead if you want to visit. Check out their website, complete and submit the background screening form. The base will reach out to you directly to schedule your visit, base Security will be expecting (you'll be on their list).

You rarely see bombers at air museums so this area of Barksdale AFB, with a nice collection of bombers, made for a great visit. From B-17 through B-52s including my favorite, the F-111.
Now the WARNING.
As others have mentioned, entry onto the base was problematic. But not just for foreigners. Followed the directions on the website and attempted many calls to the museum with no answer. It was only through the help of an amazing person in Security (not related to the museum process) that we were able to enter to see the impressive aircraft up close and the museum.
I completely understand the need for security as I’m in the aviation industry, but there should be better communication and support for the entry permits. All I can suggest is email and call as much as it takes to confirm approval before arriving. And if you have trouble like we did, don’t take it out on the guards. They have a job to do to maintain security for the base’s safety and should be applauded for there service. I read some terrible reviews where it seemed people became verbally aggressive with the guards. Don’t be “that guy”.
I would just hope they improve their approval communication if this museum remains.

Free! Go on Barksdale Air Forse base and see a variety of planes up close. Inside the museum is fact based dioramas about the base and its origin. Great for kids to see and experience an Air Force base.

Great stop for the history of the Air Force base and the air planes that were stationed at the base. Great display of actual aircraft outside. You can walk around and take as much time as you want. We spent less then 3 hours and were able to see the everything.

The Museum is very well maintianed and they have a large collection of planes. When visiting be sure to check out the rooms inside the building. Alot of great stuff to look at and read.

The museum is really small, but it has a nice collection. The real thing to visit is the outdoor aircraft. They have about 20 planes. A nice collection of bombers. B-29, B-17, B-24 from WWII along with a P-51. From modern times they have a F-111, Vulcan, B-52, and SR-71 along with Mig-21. The best part is using the free phone app walking tour. Highly recommend it. They were a little light on some planes like the P-51, but my wife really enjoyed it.

If you’re into aeronautical history, then you should visit this place. There are several different types of aircraft on display and a museum too!

Si vous souhaitez visiter ce musée, il faut faire une demande préalable minimum deux mois à l’avance
A l’entrée, le sergent en service gardera votre passeport et vous le redonnera à la sortie.
A l’extérieur vous serez escortés par un sous officier, discret soit mais très vigilant. Si vous êtes sympa avec lui vous passerez un excellent moment car il vous donnera toutes les explications possibles.
A l’intérieur, un petit musée, le personnel est très aimable
La visite est gratuite mais laisser un petit billet de 10 dollars dans l’urne car ce geste sera bien apprécié.

This is a great little museum located on Barksdale AFB. Open to the public. It may be small but it packs a lot of well done displays and memorabilia inside. Don’t forget the static displays outside. If you are at all interested in aviation, military history or local history, it’s not to be missed.

Adding this comment to help future visitors. The entry process is significantly changed now and requires contacting 30 days in advance. Check the website when planning a visit to avoid entry issues.

Hours of Operation & Security Information
The museum is operating at our normal hours of 9:30am to 4:00pm, everyday except Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Years Day.
As a result of current world events, the Barksdale Global Power Museum is performing the following safeguards for our visitors:
A Government issued ID, (Drivers License, Passport etc.) is required to gain entry at the gate entrance.
All vehicles are subject to search.
No backpacks, briefcases or large bags will be allowed in any buildings.
Visitors please sign in upon entering the museum.
