Again visited the Christmas Fair this year on Saturday, always a great start to Christmas. The entertainment was excellent and loads of fantastic exhibitors to choose from. A shout out to the ladies ensuring the café ran smoothly, great improvement to queues and being able to get a seat once you had your food. Well done guys. The food was lovely as always. Also love the banter with the guides. When I asked one where Santa was this year she went into a great story about issues in Lapland etc. that morning, what a hoot. It just adds to the enjoyment of the day. Don’t miss it next year if you get the chance.

I visited Hopetoun House Christmas market today and what a fabulous day I had. Firstly I was met by very friendly welcoming staff at the ticket office who checked my online ticket (tickets can only be purchased online) and directed me to parking. There I was directed to a parking space by a young lady who clearly knew what she was doing. When I was on the forecourt a lady in hi viz directed me to the toilets and the best place to start the visit. The stalls had a great variation of products, all very reasonably priced. Because you were given a time slot to arrive but could stay as long as you wanted, there wasn’t huge crowds pushing their way past you. I had coffee and a sweet treat from a coffee truck outside which was lovely and there were chairs and tables available to sit under cover. The stalls were dotted around the house so it was lovely to see part of the house also. It was a beautiful day so I had a short walk in the gardens. Well done Hopetoun House, lots of very friendly staff on duty, very well organised, with a great variety of stalls to cater for every budget. I will definitely be back

Went on the guided Tree-walk with my daughter around Hopetoun House. Guide for the group was the ranger Emma. It was a fantastic walk through the grounds and woodland and Emma had a lot of knowledge, not only about the trees but also about fungi and the house and grounds. She was approachable and funny and had time for everyone’s questions. I’ll probably go on other guided tours and I can warmly recommend a visit.

What a delightful place to visit very imposing as you drive in, there is such a lot to see. After viewing the rooms we went on to the roof where you get some wonderful views of the grounds & the 3 Forth bridges. The grounds were also very interesting & as my wife is an Outlander fan we were able to see the different areas of filming. All in all a delightful visit.

Took my 92 year old mother. What a delight this place is. The volunteers are so helpful and welcoming. A beautiful place, interesting to visit and accessable with disabilities.

Hopetoun well exceeded our expectations - partly due to the terrific 2pm guided tour we took last Sunday afternoon. The guide was wonderful and brought everything to life - took about 1 hour. The rooms are great, as is the history (even if not familiar with Outlander) and location superb. Great visit!

Amazing place to visit. House was interesting and we just made it for a guided tour. It was interesting but maybe a little longer than necessary.
Incredibly country estate to explore too with interesting flora and fauna.
We even saw a group of deer with a stag.
Also interesting if an Outlander fan as parts of the house and grounds were used as filming locations. Use info guide to show the various places.

Bel palazzo nei pressi di Edimburgo.
Da fuori è molto scenografico. All'interno si possono vedere alcune stanze, non molte a dire la verità.
Presente un ristorante self service.
Il parco è molto grande e consente varie passeggiate.

Absolutely stunning, what an impressive view of the house you get driving towards it, it really is something else Lots to see inside the house with information cards in every room. There are guided tours available but I just wandered round myself. Went to the cafe for soup which was delicious. The weather wasn't that great so I didn't manage a walk in the grounds so I will definitely be back for another look around the house and a walk round the grounds.

We had a morning looking around the house and grounds - staff were very pleasant and knowledgeable. Whole experience was interesting and we left feeling happy. There is a relaxed feel to the experience - you can wander at will and ask questions in various parts of the house. We really enjoyed our morning there

Visited today and a bit confused and disappointed after just reading a Country Life magazine article talking about a 12 acre kitchen garden. No walled garden was visible from the roof and we didn’t see any gardens when we walked in along the drive. Also don’t remember seeing it mentioned in the brochure we received. There just seemed to be open grass and trees surrounding the house.

Hi Glenda, unfortunately we have no public transportation links near Hopetoun. The nearest train station is Dalmeny Station in South Queensferry and then we would suggest taking a taxi from there. Many thanks, Hopetoun

We won't have time to visit the house itself during our trip to Scotland, but I was hoping we would be able to take photos of the exterior. Are you able to view the house from the parking area, or do you have to enter/pay admission to be able to get close enough to see it?

yes you can view the outside of the house and grounds without paying an entrance fee

We would like to visit Hopetoun House in late April 2017. We shall be staying in Edinburgh, but we shall not have a car. Is it possible to reach you using public transport, plus a taxi, if necessary? I should be most grateful for your help.

Hi, I was just interested to know how easy access is to Hopetoun House was and how it could be improved? What's it like for coach access and also I heard there was a back/ country road, why is this not open all visitor season?

Thank you very much for your enquiry. Access to Hopetoun House is only from South Queensferry and is signed all the way from the A904. This route does easily accommodate coaches as well as cars and bicycles (following national cycle route 76). There are unfortunately no other permanently accessible routes into Hopetoun that can accommodate significant regular traffic or coaches.

If you get a train to Dalmeny Station in South Queensferry, we are about 3 miles away from the train station so if it is a nice day its a lovely walk through South Queensferry. Alternatively you can get a taxi to us. For more travel information please visit our website.
