I called the day before we visited to obtain more information than what the website listed. Parking, as suggested in the public parking garage behind the museum, was ideal. The 1st 2 hours in the public parking garage are FREE! Yes there is 90minute parking curbside by the main entrance on Main St. but knowing how a 5 year old can be, knew we’d be in the museum longer. Our visit lasted 2+ hours & we enjoyed taking our time on all 3 floors to really experience the hands on exhibits. Everything was immaculate! Kudos to all the staff we saw disinfecting hand rails etc. The Dino Dig area was thoroughly enjoyed! Digging by hand under the dry soft pebble-like rocks to find the pretend dinosaur bones was intriguing & the thick bumpy oversized mat on the floor was a fine way to lay down side by side to read one of the handful of child oriented dinosaur story books together. In the Doctor’s room we even tested our grandson’s vision with the eye chart on the wall. He loved the Vet Office & had his 1st experience putting on an Elizabethan collar on a cat shaped stuffed animal. To turn the steering wheel of the pretend fire truck AND hear/see the overhead siren + the dispatchers voice was truly entertaining. The beaver lodge, which you partially see from the museum’s front window, was a highlight! To crawl into it was fun for him. The adjacent Nature Trail, 2 stories tall structure of wood/metal allowed him to walk in & climb higher & higher as we watched & talked to each other. In the music area was an open piano that allowed the children to see the inner workings …to see what happens when you press the keys which was also a delight.
Needless to say we were thrilled he enjoyed himself so much…and we did too!

Great exhibits for childrens learning. Explicit displays. Graphic exhibits. Exciting for kids to learn from.

We have visited the Maine Discovery Museum many times with our child. She even had a birthday party there one year. This is fun place for small children!

This is a great and fun learning place. My grandson had a blast. 3 floors of fun and enjoying a kid being just a kid and learning while having fun.

So wish we lived closer to Bangor. This was a fantastic children's museums and we've been to a few. It had a little bit of everything. From the human body to singing to dinosaurs. The price was right too. Not sure how the parking situation is during the week and on Saturday's but we found a spot and had a ball exploring every nook and cranny we could access.

Kids of all ages will enjoy the interactive exhibits. The museum is undergoing renovations, bit by bit, but don’t let that deter you from discovering the Discovery Museum.

This is a GREAT place to take the kids! The museum spans several floors and covers a lot of cool stuff that kids would enjoy. Its not a high-dollar big-city museum, but its a great experience for kids in the area. Its very open and the kids are encouraged to explore, touch, play, interact, etc. Its not full of fancy bells and whistles but honestly I haven't seen a single kid there who cares about those things.

My esteemed spouse,aka the esteemed Bumpa, and I are visiting grandchildren here in Bangor, Maine, and have had the opportunity to take the kiddos to this museum twice..And each time was great! There is a huge variety of activities..everything from the play kitchen to the giant hamster cage , from the foosball table to the puppet theater, from the reading center to the river to float boats in, this place is three full stories of fun! Clean, shiny, educational and fun...enjoy!!

Took my almost 3-year old grandson, not knowing how he would do here. Turns out that there was a lot to keep him interested. We were here for 2+ hours! The variety of kid-friendly activities kept producing lots of smiles, giggles, wonder, and fun. I agree that some aspects could be freshened up, but considering how tough kids can be on anything they touch, it really was in good shape. Some favorites: the waterworks area on the ground floor, the gravity tracks on the third floor, and the cargo ship on the second floor. This is a place a kid could visit every 6 months or so between ages 2 and 8, and find new areas of interest as they grow. It is nice that a cafe is located right next door. On the day we went, the hot chocolate and cookies were a welcome treat after all the exploration.

This was my second or third trip to this museum with my grandson. Interestingly, it claims to be the largest children's museum north of Boston. We were there on a Saturday afternoon. My overall impression is that the museum could use some maintenance and perhaps more staff.
There was a birthday party in the event room while we were there, but the attendees seemed to be running loose all around the building, including riding up and down the elevator. There were two staff members at the front desk, but I didn't see anyone elsewhere in the building.
The museum could use some maintenance: there isn't enough water in the stream on the first floor (both times I've been there this has been the case); only 2 out of 5 computer displays on the 3rd floor were working; and the barnyard scene where kids can film their own movie wasn't working (the start button seemed to be missing... or maybe I just missed it). There was no one in the area to ask for assistance.
The Doctor's office and 'restaurant' areas are good, and there are some engaging things to do on the third floor. A child could keep busy here for several hours, and there's some interesting things for their adults to do also.
