Visiting Belfast on our drive along Maine's coast, my husband and I walked by this small, spanking-new gallery. He spied scrimshaw, so our curiosity was piqued. Inside were rarely seen creations from artisans and craftspeople from the extreme north: Greenland, Labrador, Nova Scotia, Newfoundland, and Maine. The delightful owner, Karen Miles, travels these far-flung locations aboard a 90-foot vintage Dutch ketch with her husband. After developing an appreciation for the native art in their port-of-calls, Karen tries to sustain these unique craftspeople by marketing their art. If you can't join one of their cruises aboard the "Wanderbird," then at least you can savor the treasures Karen brings home by browsing this gallery.
