The conductor was very personable. He took the time to give us a quick tour of the caboose.
He also gave a great narrative of the landmarks during the scenic ride. The boys had a great experience and that’s exactly what I was looking for! Money well spent!!!

I accidently booked wrong date with no refund. I never went on ride yet get email thanking me for riding.

The kids viewed an unbelievably, fake Santa in a dirty, yellowed suit. He fist-bumped the kids and talked to them as you would a buddy! Ride was only an hour and there were no lights in our car and no Christmas songs or music were sung. They started the fire a few minutes into our trip and we were all freezing. Never again! You could have made it nice instead of a miserable time.

The concept of the Santa Train is good, but that being said, this was what was lacking. No one loves Christmas and Santa more than my Grandson. He was so excited to see Santa. Santa did not appear to seem too excited to see the children. He came into our car halfway through the ride. Was not jolly. There were no “Ho Ho Ho’s”!! He sat down on a regular chair in the front. There was no invitation for the kids to go see Santa so after awhile we took the kids down. No sitting on the lap. He did not ask them what they wanted for Christmas. He made one quick trip up and down the isle to give the kids a very small stuffed animal. Very limited interaction with the children when he did this. He clearly was not enjoying his job and one of the worst Santa’s I have seen!
It was advertised that there would be Christmas songs. There were none. When Santa is spending time in one car it would have been much more festive and entertaining for the kids to have Mrs Claus in the other car interacting and having either a story or songs. Santa got off of the train first so he could say goodbye to everyone. He stood over by the building instead of near the steps of the train. You would have to walk over to him to say goodbye as I saw no effort from him.
Would not do again unless it becomes more festive and Santa is jolly!!

Bring your own drinks and snacks on board. There is no alcohol there for purchase. The "ride" is 27.5 minutes one way, a 5 minute stop, and 27.5 minutes going backwards the same way you came, so it's really a 27.5 minute ride that you do twice.
The ride wasn't "bad", but it could be made much better to add some alcohol offerings and some history or explanations as we went along.

Our favorite part was enjoying nature and Kip. He was so helpful and so nice! He made our morning all that much more enjoyable. Highly recommend. The only thing that I would recommend is more signs. We got there 40 minutes early and really had no idea where to go.

The train cars were in the worse shape of any train we have been on. They are in dire need of a complete overhaul. I’ve been on rustic trains before but they are at least clean and nice to look at. The carpets were tattered, I think it was the original paint from whenever they were built. The windows were so dirty you could hardly see out of them. Some of the seat cushions had holes or stains. As far as the views, they were so so. There was a lake which was beautiful and the view at the river where we stopped before we went in reverse to go back was nice. Other than that, not a lot to look at. I would not recommend this trip to anyone. There are too many other things to do in Maine.

I love riding the train to the fair! I can relax and enjoy the beautiful scenery. The train ride is very old fashioned and comfortable. The parking lot is convenient to the station and very easy to access. The train people (employees? Engineers?) are friendly and helpful. They seem to be very much enjoying loading and unloading folks for the fair. I recommend taking the Belfast & Moosehead train to the fair.

My husband and I took a few hours to enjoy a beautiful September morning and ride the train through the woods. It was a quick but very pleasant ride, fun to hear the whistle blow and the bells ringing on the tracks as we crossed through roadway intersections. We had pizza, a soda and a whoopie pie, and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. The staff was friendly, helpful and knowledgeable, and made each person feel welcome. We are considering taking a fall leaf peeping trip!
