A Day on Cabbage Island

This is a wonderful way to spend a day! The narrated boat ride to the island was terrific. We saw several islands, lighthouses, boats, ships, and yachts, and even learned some of the history of this area. The time spent on Cabbage Island was perfect. The two men who run this program took time to greet and visit with all the people who came on the tour. The waitstaff was helpful, cheerful, and very efficient. They were willing to assist with whatever anyone asked. The food was delicious and more than plentiful. This was an experience I won't soon forget and I would advise that it is a MUST-DO for tourists to this area. Make reservations far in advance!

Do not miss this experience!

What an outstanding experience! The ride to Cabbage Island was interesting and comfortable. The island itself is a bit rugged so if you have mobility issues it may cause some problems. Since we do not, it was fabulous. Did I mention you get 2 whole lobsters??!! Along with all the other traditional clambake side items, namely, clams, potato, corn on the cob, onion and hard cooked egg you won't walk away hungry. Then after all of that they give you a square of really delicious blueberry cake. All in all, the only negative is too much food. (One couple we saw on the boat actually brought a cooler and took one dinner home. Great idea if you have a place to re-heat it.) The ride back to Boothbay Harbor was shorter than the ride out but again, a nice, smooth, enjoyable ride.

Ever Try a Clambake?

This experience was very enjoyable. Our Clambake was boarding at noon, leaving at 12:30. But it's smart to be in line to pay [by cash or checks only] by 11:15 or 11:30. Then there is another line to wait to board the boat. There are about 150 people on each Clambake. If you don't care where you sit on the boat, come closer to noon, pay and wait in line to board at the end of the line. Either way, you'll get a seat. {Try to get a seat on the starboard [right] side of the boat if you can. When you get to the island after an hour cruise, you can choose to sit inside, on a large porch or at many, many picnic tables scattered throughout. After about 15 minutes, you'll hear a bell and that means get back to your seat, as the servers will bring around a fish chowder & crackers. {There's also a cash bar, with coffee & tea complimentary]. After your chowder, maybe about 15-30 minutes later, you'll hear a fog horn and that means it's time to head down to the "chow line". This is well organized, and your plate is all set for you; all you have to do is carefully carry it back to your table. Your plate will be full - 2 lobsters, a bowl of clams, a large ear of corn, a baked potato, a whole roasted onion and a hard boiled egg. Wow! You'll have a [nut] cracker on your table and you'll be given a little pick to dig out the tiny morsels of lobster meat. there's plenty of butter and the servers are more than happy to bring you more butter or whatever you want. Last but not least, you'll get a large piece of blueberry cake which was yummy and almost coffee cake-like. We shared one and too the other one home! You'll have about an hour or so to walk around the island, or play corn hole, badmitten, etc and then it's time to head down for the [much shorter] boat ride back to Boothbay Harbor.
All in all, a lovely afternoon or evening and we'd recommend it.

Great excursion!

A perfect outing while in Maine! Even though it was a rainy and cool day we enjoyed every aspect of it! From the scenic boat ride out to the island, the friendly staff and other guests, to the delicious food…. It was a perfect “Maine” excursion.

Exceeded expectations

This was a wonderful cruise and feast, with the surprise being what a lovely island Cabbage Island is, and how welcoming the staff was. Guests are efficiently served the meal and invited to explore and enjoy the views, gardens, and games like cornhole and volleyball. This is all remarkable since it is family-owned and some of the family calls it home. I would have liked a moister cake with more blueberries, but overall a great value and memorable evening.

Best trip ever!

This was one of the best trips ever. From the wonderful boat ride with commentary on the scenery, to the most delicious lobster dinner one could ask for. The crew on the boat and on the island were great, courteous, and a pleasure to be with. They have the dinner down to a science, and there was nothing but smiles all around. Everything was also extremely clean, and it was a magical experience.

Even better the second time.

Our second time to Maine and came back to Boothbay JUST to go to the clam bake. It was even better the second time. This family does an amazing time and creates a wonderful experience.

Our family of 6 adults had the absolute best time at the Cabbage Island Clambake! Wonderful boat ride out with lots of great scenery. The island is amazing. Food was delicious! The owners mingling with the guests was wonderful and the staff was top notch. So many areas to explore and outdoor games.
This is a must do when in Booth Bay Harbor.

Awesome Experience!

This was so much fun! You board a board boat which takes you to a family owned island. You have a little time to walk around before being served a huge portion of food. You won’t leave hungry! I tried the blueberry cocktail and it was delicious. We took our five-year-old son and he had a blast too. Family friendly thing to do, great time, friendly staff and delicious food! Totally recommend and would do it again.
