I love sailing and I love visiting the coast of Maine. Unfortunately my sailing in Maine has always been as a passenger. It's too far to bring my own boat and I just wished I could be sailing. This year I found West Harbor Recreation and rented their 21' San Juan sailboat for the day. What a great time I had sailing around Boothbay Harbor and making the three lighthouse tour with my daughter and son in law.
The boat was very well equipped with excellent sails and motor.
Wendy gave us a thorough review of the boat and charts of the area including specific areas to watch out for.
Well worth the cost, will look forward to sailing here again.

Tim and Wendy have helped us enjoy the Booth Bay Harbor area by boat the last two summers. The boats are always clean, well equipped and a joy. The only thing they know more about than boats is the area. They helped us navigate the tough spots and showed us some of the hidden gems on the local rivers. A big part of us coming back to Maine each year is the view from the water thanks to West Harbor Recreation, Inc.

We've been coming to Boothbay Harbor for years and wish we had discovered the boat rentals here sooner. We rented the San Juan 21, "Quasar", yesterday and enjoyed a spectacular day sailing out to see the three lighthouses in the harbor. Although the boat is old and rather spartan, it has been very well maintained and is in great shape with relatively new sails, motor, and rigging, plus it comes with life jackets and safety gear, so we felt quite safe and comfortable. It was a breeze to sail and handled well. The woman who rented us the boat was very friendly and quite helpful. There are other boats there to rent for those who are not sailors. If you enjoy being on the water, renting a boat here and going out on your own is a "must do." We can't wait to rent a boat here again next year!!
