We visited this right after the tour of the Joshua Chamberlain Museum and Home. This house was very interesting ... the family threw nothing out! Generations of appliances and collecting. It was quite fascinating. Our docent knew her stuff and made the tour very interesting.

The owners of this house stopped living here in 1925, and used it only as a summer home for 60 years. They donated it to the historical society with all contents, and the result if a fascinating museum. It is packed with appliances from the 1920s. The owners were wealthy and had lots of nice furniture and art work.
Our tour guide was a retiree who seemed to know everything about the family, the appliances, and history of the house.
Well worth a stop.

We visited this attraction as part of a package deal with the Joshua L. Chamberlain Museum. It's a relatively short walk from the museum to the house. The house has a great number of artifacts from the families who lived there. This allows you to see how folks lived in the latter part of the 19th century through to the early part of the 20th century. The tour guide was very knowledgeable

This house is very well maintained and is FULL of all kinds of things from dishes to art pieces and things brought back from trips around the world!! Definite must see and the best part is a 2 for 1 price to see both this and the Joshua Chamberlain house!!!

Get the combination ticket with the Joshua Chamberlain house tour - it's well worth the price. The Skolfield Whittier house is a true snapshot in time, and well worth the trip.

We were looking forward to touring this time capsuled home of a late nineteenth century ship captain's family. Unfortunately, the tours do not begin until the end of May!

Enjoyed seeing this house so much. It's a time capsule for the life of a wealthy Victorian family. Did not disappoint. A one hour tour - started on the hour.

One Of The Best Historical Homes We Have Been to, All of The Home is Still intact as if The Home is Still Lived In. Our Guide was Awesome as She Told us All About The Home, The Families and Secrets of The Home. Well Worth The Combo Package Price to To See This Home and the Joshua Chamberlain Home.

The tour guide was excellent, took her time in showing us everything. One of the few historic homes where the family evidently left everything intact, just up and left. Very interesting.

I saw the review on the chamberlain house that this house basically kicked that house's butt so we rerouted ourselves to pop in. It did not disappoint. Thank god for three generations of quirky hoarders. This place is the best preserved historical home I've seen and I've been to quite a few that set a high bar. From the wash room that still has coal in the box and the wash boilers and ringers in place to the original stove, rugs and furniture. It's just amazing. There are also some really odd items - a funeral necklace made out of human hair, hidden liquor cubbies, old commode (even after a modern version was installed), a soap hoard hidden in the icebox. It's also unique because two families lived in the structure. It looks like one house from the outside but it's actually two completely separate dwellings once inside. You can only tour the first two of the four floors (for structural safety reasons). It's only $8.50 per person. Totally worth it! Tour takes an hour. Our tour guide Ali (who amazingly was only in high school) was great - very knowledgable and passionate about the house and family.

We will have limited time in Brunswick but would like to see both the Scofield-Whittier House plus the Joshua L. Chamberlain Museum and Walking Tour. How long do you think we need for both of these attractions?
