Buyer beware! Not a good place! Utilizing their store front to voice ugly political and religious opinions, to include the military, who fought for their rights!
Not the place!
As I listened silently to many conversations going on, this owner Definitely fits the description of arrogance! He needs to put others down, to what he thinks makes him better! A true adult bully!
Arrogance can be defined as the personality trait whereby a person has an obnoxiously elevated sense of self-worth. An arrogant person is the one who acts as if they're superior, more worthy, and more important than others. Therefore, they tend to disrespect and put others down. At the same time, they want admiration and respect from others.

This independent bookstore offers a rich array of titles, especially related to the region (Maine culture, geography, history, writers). Excellent choices in poetry and fiction. Strong line-up of contemporary politics and philosophy. I enjoyed browsing the densely-packed tables and shelves and chatting with the proprietor before purchasing Mama's Last Hug by Frans de Waal. Would happily come back here.

Not sure why a store owner would seek to alienate what we know would be half her patrons with very liberal (anti conservative) books and sticker displays. Don’t go there if you even lean a little bit on the conservative side. Place is not for you.

It's a pretty nice independent bookstore, not very big, but big enough. Lots of books on Maine -- travel, history, local legends, and so on. Nice selection of fiction, non-fiction, and children's books, plus some other odds and ends. Friendly and knowledgeable owner.

Diagonally across the street from Wilbur's of Maine Chocolate Confections is Gulf of Maine Books
It was a well-organized, neatly-arranged bookstore that invited browsing the wide variety of books in stock.
On my visit, I came upon an interesting, humorous cat book that was pretty much advice from a cat. The photos and drawings that went with the sayings showed the cats doing some outlandishly hilarious things. As a cat fancier, it was a book I had to have. It was $12.95 + tax.
The verbal exchanges between the hippie-type fellow behind the counter and his buddy who came to visit were entertaining. It was some Maine humor.
It was nice to see an independent bookstore surviving in the world of online booksellers.
I rate Gulf of Maine Book Shop at 5.0 for the books in stock and the comedy show. I highly recommend a visit even if it’s just to browse.

I shop here whenever I'm in Brunswick just to make sure the place stays open. The gregarious owner freely offers suggestions and will discuss a wide range of subjects if he's not too busy. We had a nice chat about the pleasures of Croatia and the prison gulag of New York's Adirondacks the last time I was in there.

Among the many restaurants on Maine St in Brunswick is this great book store. Great selection of books and fun to browse through. In this age of on-line shopping its nice to still be able to have a book store to walk into with a lot to choose from.

It's been 18+ years since I've been loving Gulf of Maine Book Shop and what a pleasure it is to enter its doors and be nurtured by not only the superb selection of books they carry but also by the clientele they have; not to mention the two lovely and thought-provoking owners Gary Lawless and Beth Leonard.
There is hardly a weekend when I don't stop in and browse, chat, and buy.
I stopped in this past weekend for a few hours and, of course, picked up a few items, including a book and several of their fabulous greeting cards.
Gulf of Maine Bookshop is - thankfully - one of a kind and a genuine treasure.

Gulf of Maine books has been here as long as I can remember and that dates back decades; and its owners are fascinating. Come in for a visit.

The quality of service and selection of reading materials make this a favorite place for those who love books. There are none of the associated "frills", however, found in some newer bookstores such as cafe, or reading nooks. It is a Mainstreet store with an extremely knowledgeable, helpful staff.
