Great way to spend an afternoon. Funny captain/narrator. Efficient bartender and great onboard oysters. Would definitely go again

Loved our experience with Damariscotta River Cruises. The captain was great ... lots of informative facts and stories about the oyster farms and river, told with classic dry, Maine humor. The service was friendly and efficient. The scenery can't be topped and the oysters are the best in the country. We will be back!

Great information on oyster farming. Even saw a couple of seals playing in the water. Ate some awesome fresh oysters. Well worth our time and money!

This Oyster farm and beer tasting tour was fantastic! The oyster farms are quite a site to see and tasting the oysters from all the farms up and down the Damariscotta River was great. The highlight was having Mike Fava as our host. His knowledge of beer and oysters is impressive and he was fantastic!

If you just want to cruise on the river for 2 hours go. If you are hoping to learn about oystering and sample oysters at a good price forget this tour! The captain/ narrator had no personality. I was ready to go back to the dock after an hour.

We found this tour to be magical. We saw seals, osprey, bald eagles and egrets. Chip provided lots of information about oyster farms and Olga served the drinks and oysters. She was very informed about each of the oysters that we tried. Chip made a special detour so we could see an eagle's nest.

We thoroughly enjoyed a private Oyster and Wine tasting cruise with Olga and Chip. Having taken a number of sailing and lobster boat cruises in Camden, this cruise is without a doubt our favorite. We enjoyed tasting oysters from 6 different hatcheries along with exotic wine pairings while learning about oyster harvesting as we cruised on a sunny afternoon down the Damaiscotta. The oyster were excellent as were the wine pairings. Olga and Sue, who owns The Captivity restaurant and artisan bar, were knowledgeable and fun. Capt. Chip's wit and humor very much added to the trip. We highly recommend booking a private cruise with Damariscotta River Cruises followed by a walking tour of Damariscotta.

The Owner also operates the boat. She is incredibly disrespectful & does not understand any element of "customer service" which is a basic requirement in a 21st century economy.
My group showed up and was denied entry because we had children. Nothing was explained on the website regarding "no children" for the Oyster & Wine Tasting event, and no refund or credit was offered. Plenty of families bring their children to oyster tasting, wineries, boats, or breweries. It's normal in the state of Maine.
She doesn't understand that she just offended a local who puts a lot of money back into the local community.

Ticket holders are required to be at the gate 20 min prior to departure. As of departure time 'this local' was not there. His group however showed up with 3 un-ticketed toddlers for a sold out Oyster and Wine Tasting Cruise, for which we only sell adult tickets. The Coast Guard is very firm on passenger count. We are not allowed to take more than our allotment, ticketed or otherwise. Thank you for your understanding.

We so looked forward to this cruise. I want to start by saying the wine and the oysters were great. We met some fun people from all over the US. Our disappointment is that there was very little narrative on the cruise. An occasional comment "on the right is". No real information on growing and harvesting the oysters and we learned nothing about the river. It could have been so much better.

On every Wine and Oyster Tasting cruise the captain/narrator informs on oyster aquaculture and passengers are encouraged to ask questions at any time on any tour. He shares mic time with the wine sommelier on board to make it an educational trip of oyster and wine pairing.
Our Oyster Farm and Seal Watching Tour at 2pm is a lot more narrated about the river, native history, boat building, and aquaculture.

We took the sunset cruise. It was a nice 2 hours on the water, exploring the bay. We bought the oysters, and they were fresh and plump. The cruise is relaxing, but there is nothing else on the boat. We enjoyed ourselves because we were a large group and enjoyed being on the water.

Hi Sara, The Oyster and Wine Cruise includes the wine tasting (6 sumptuous wines and occasional bubblies or sake) and 6 oysters from the Damariscotta River.If your interest is piqued, you can reserve your seats now.

Many reviews mentioned not being able to hear the tour leader. We are elderly and nothing is more annoying than not being able to hear what we have paid for. Is there a place to sit where reception is better? Also, do you see fewer children on the later trips?

We have updated the PA system and added additional speakers. Children are welcome on all of our cruises except the Oyster and Wine Tasting Tours. There may be fewer kids on the Happy Hour Sunset Cruise but you never know. The fall brings less children during the week.

Yes, there is a wheelchair-friendly restroom onboard. Adult tickets are $31, children (under 12) ride for $16. The cruises are 2-hr long.

If we have kids (age 6 and 3) do they get involved in any way during the cruise? We went on a lobster cruise last year in Portland and they got to handle the traps and lobsters. So we are looking for something similarly interactive.

There are some hands on experiences like touching the oysters and the oyster trays. They will also get a bingo sheet of 30+ items that they will have to spot on the river and get a present or little treats when completed.
