The stave church in Borgund is one of the most beautiful stave churches in western Norway. The medieval precision and attention to detail in the construction of this church is simply admirable. Nestled in the wonderful mountain landscape, it conveys an atmospheric image of Norwegian culture. We also liked the visitor center very much. In addition to a café and souvenirs, there is also a very interesting exhibition about the history and significance of the stave churches. The information is written in Norwegian, English and German. A visit is highly recommended.

... to see it on the outside it is very worth approaching (we were going towards Flam and before taking the tunnel we decided to approach to see it). We already knew that we could not see it inside (at 17:00 they already close it) but still outside it is impressive, magnificent.

Visited this beautiful church. Very different to the other stave churches. They all differ inside. The guides are always very good and will answer any questions. Here there is a visitor centre which has a very good museum. This is one of the more known stave churches so there are coaches of visitors but it all works well.

We were on a coach trip around Norway & our tour company had been told we could stop here for lunch & to use the facilities. If we wanted to go round the church we needed to purchase our own ticket.
On arrival our tour operator was told we could not use the cafe or facilities or buy a ticket on the door.
This was totally disappointing & no surprise the place was not very busy.

Simply HORRIBLE! A World Heritage site is simply managed by a racist manager with discriminatory behavior, we paid for a tour that included a visit to the church and when we wanted to buy tickets, the manager, seeing that we were a foreign group, denied us the purchase of tickets for the visit and put us out on the street like we were trash, we were treated in such a way that my wife even cried. A terrible example of the country is being set by a lady who considers herself to be above a world heritage site...even in the case of a foundation it is contradictory to say the least...simply pathetic. Apparently if we are Norwegians we even get in without paying. For the record, a complaint will be formalized at the Norwegian embassy in Portugal and we hope that this lady will be removed from her position as soon as possible. I DO NOT RECOMMEND

SO cool to see such an old structure so well preserved! The museum does such a nice job with explaining the history… definitely do the museum part first, before touring the church. Worth a visit!

It was on our route and we thought we would take a look. Nice to see, but if you want to enter the grounds and see the church up close and from the inside, you have to pay.

Very beautiful, but closed from october. Anyway you can enjoy the outside views and have a walk through the mountain road sourrounding it. Also some hiking paths pass through there.
The parking site is big, but to reach by car is a bit messy if you come from Oslo or Bergen (4:30h and 5). But its worth it.

Stunning! The architecture and history of the Borgund Stave Church is outstanding. The lecture was informative and very, very interesting. It is a shame the other thousand stave churches throughout the country are no longer standing. They are Norway treasures!

Where did you rent the car in Flam to get to the church - public transit seems like a hassle and would only give us 20 minutes at the church for almost 2 hours of travel. Any advice would be welcome!
