Beautifully restored (rebuilt to specifications) fort that provides a example of the conflicts with the French, British and Native Americans before the Revolution. The site provides in depth history regarding life as a soldier there as well as the nature of the conflicts. Its at a beautiful spot too.

Just go! It was an amazing experience. The house is really cool, and the volunteers are very knowledgeable. Pack a lunch/snacks and enjoy the view from the picnic table. Beaches and trails to explore, and not a lot of people around since you have to get here by boat.
We used casco bay sightseeing to get to the Island.

Had never been to Eagle Island and the island home of Admiral Robert Peary before. The park was wonderful (we travelled via a boat tour out of Freeport), access to the house was almost unlimited. It was a beautiful location, lots of interesting history and great views all around the island via the hiking trails. Only downside .. they never clean up all the goose poop in the grassy areas and it is EVERYWHERE. Pretty gross, so watch your step!!

This park and building are a tribute to Admiral Perry. Worth a trip to the island. Note: Out of state visitors pay $6 entry NOT $5!

We visited Eagle Island using Seacoast Tours of Freeport, ME which was a terrific way to spend an afternoon. Hiking was limited due to trails being closed due to nesting birds. The Admiral Peary museum was interesting until one of the volunteers instructed me that I must leave my backpack in the hallway. Since I had my camera, car keys, wallet, etc. in my pack I was uncomfortable leaving it unattended, so I opted to leave. Other people had backpacks of equal size to mine and they were not asked to leave them in the hallway, I didn't press the matter, just left and continued to have a nice visit to the island. Definitely worth visiting, two hours was just the right amount of time. Bring sunblock and if you plan on hiking you will need bug spray.

Eagle island is a great experience. There's a beautiful house with a free tour, a short movie, and lovely trails with sweeping views. Along the trails that are loaded with wildlife.

Whether you like history, enjoy birding, or just to sit looking at the ocean this is a great little island. Admiral Peary's house is interesting and fairly well maintained. The trails on the island are passable for a variety of abilities and there is a nice picnic table at the far end away from the day visitors (a nice boat ride leaves from Freeport which is popular) , Kayakers can paddle here but there is some ocean currents so if you are not experienced you may not want to do this. I have been a couple times and enjoy it for different reasons each time.

You can only get there by boat and if you are lucky enough to get a great sunny day it’s spectacular views in every direction☀️. The trip getting there is half the fun. From the moment you arrive history awaits in the form of a relatively untouched time capsule of one famous family’s summers on a beautiful Maine island.

I hadn't been out here since a kid on my dad's boat. No boat as we were just visiting but Captain Len of Casco Bay Sights n Lights picked us up on Bailey Island and took us out. Great morning visiting Peary's home, watching the parent Ospreys bringing food to the nest and hiking around the island.

So we met the van at 9 am "Coffee by design " which is in LL Bean on Main st. in downtown Freeport ,Me. Short drive to the dock to go out with Captain Pete on the "Pamela B" at 9;30 am . A nice clean boat with shade or sun your choice ,you can fill your water bottle on the boat.
45 minute trip to Eagle island ,Capt Pete gave a very good talk on the history of the
Islands and showed us all many points of interest.
Once on the island ,an 18 min video showing the history of Admiral Peary was shown in the visitor center .Some water to purchase there .The home is self guided but there are staff to answer questions.Nice big home with lots of artifacts .We took the hike around the island 1 mile ,some great narrow coast trails and beaches to walk.
There are picnic tables and great views everywhere .There is a composting toilet on the island. We spent 2 hours on the island which was just the right amount of time .
I would recommend the Seacoast tours.Very smooth operation !!
