We really did see lions, tigers and bears! It was incredible being so close to these amazing animals. The zoo is set up so you feel like you are in their environment instead of the other way around. Highly recommend!!

Great place to go with family or by yourself. Peaceful surroundings for the animals and their visitors! The owners greet you at the check in area and are very personable. There is a fee which we were all for paying when you see how well the animals are taken care. They are all in their own natural areas all having buildings to go into for protection from the elements. Families were enjoying the animals with their children and our granddaughter enjoyed both the animals and the human kids! She is two and not shy so she wanted to make friends with the kids that were her size! All in all I highly recommend this place, the owners are doing a good thing here, support their passion of helping animals.

2nd visit. Love to see all the animals here....The owners are very nice people and always have time to chat and answer any questions....its a self guided tour to see many different type of animals...awesome for kids too!

First off. Kids loved it and had a great time. Not your standard “zoo” experience though. Mostly chain linked fence and up close and personal. More of a rescue place and felt some enclosures needed some upkeep. That being said, I feel the people running this place care for the animals and are doing their best to do a good thing. Not sure if it was supposed to be a visiting type place or not or just morphed into it and they were not prepared for that. I am not sure what zoo standards are but dont think this is it. Again, just torn on how to rate it as I’m not sure what it is going for. The intent is honorable.
Side note and a recommendation: with that many visitors coming from all over might want to consider getting rid of the porta potty’s and invest in some facilities.

The so-called zookeepers should be ashamed of themselves. The place is dirty, dusty, animals are kept in chainlink fencing with virtually no grass to lie on. Feces and foul smells everywhere.
I just thought this could be a decent place if the concentrated in far fewer species. They are clearly too overwhelmed with the responsibility of all these animals to do any of them justice.
I left ashamed that I'd contributed to this place and angry at my friends who arranged the trip. Booo.

This was an unexpected delight. Lots of big cats and other interesting animals in the middle of nowhere Maine. They have reasonable entrance fees, friendly staff, and wonderful animals that you can see from just a few feet away. I highly recommend!

I was expecting more exotic animals and less goats, chickens and lamas. There are a couple of lions and tigers, bears and kangaroos but there were mostly farm animals.

This place is unique in this are and has grown form a shoestring. The couple that started the compound are very knowledgeable and intimate with their animals. Please watch the Yankee Jungle on Animal Planet to see what goes on and how they live and manage this adventure in Maine.

Parking lot was full, but safely parked on the side of the road. Owners are available for questions and a staff member was leading a tour. Other staff seen working. ATTENTION TO SENIORS: You will be walking on loose stones and ruts from the rain.
You can purchase a bucket of food for $10 or an ice cream cone for less. The lion roared. The no nocturnal Animals are of course sleeping. Signage is clear what animals can be fed and those not to be fed.
Definitely a hidden gem of Maine.

Yes it's a fair sized parking lot I am sure you could pull along the back edge they also had some fields for parking when it's very busy

I am burning with desire to know why Carol would think it was okay to have skinny animals with their ears eaten off by flies. I saw it. I have pictures. If you look on DEW facebook page these wolves did not look like this in May. These people may think they are doing a good thing but this is a bleak and sad backyard zoo. I stand by my strong opinion that DEW haven needs and intervention. The animals are not healthy.

I do not recall seeing a bench or a resting area along the way, but I wonder if you make it known that it's needed, if they could come up with a couple benches. Bob is just that kind of guy. :)

We r planning on bringing the cub scouts in for a tour on May 14th there should be about 50 in the group children n adults can u please let us know what it will cost per head. Will someone be able to give us a tour so if the boys have any questions someone can answer them. What would be a good time for us to be there.
