I was able to take the virtual tour from my home in Chicago with a group of friends from all over who also experienced the cancelation of summer plans due to Covid. This was a ton of fun and allowed us to continue to learn something new, and look forward to planning something in the future! We all left wanting more and cannot wait until it is safe to travel to do the live tour and experience all the great learning and food we discussed!!! Thank you Maine Food for Thought, this was a great experience.

I loved the virtual tour! We all sipped wine while learning about the kelp and history of Maine. Thank you for providing an engaging experience whether in person OR online!

We just got done with this tour. It was amazing and definitely recommend. We hit 5 restaurants with great ambience and the food at each was amazing. In addition to the great food, the tour was really informative with regards to how food in Maine is sourced and will make you think about what you can do to help when you make food choices in general. Absolutely worth the time and money!

Thanks for coming on our tour, Brian! I am really glad you were able to join us on our "opening day" tour this season! We definitely do pay homage to the incredible men and women in Maine who operate across the supply chain to deliver world class and sustainably sourced food.

I took my 16-year-old daughter on the tour and we loved every minute of it. The Maine Food For Thought tour is singular in how it combines food, history, sustainability, economics, and its chef and maker partners into one fantastic experience. As a local, I learned so much and felt an immense sense of pride in the place I call home. I was worried that my daughter would be bored, but she was not. She LOVED the food and the opportunity to walk around the Old Port in a way we had never done before. Our tour guide Bryce was kind, engaging, and extremely knowledgeable. We have our local haunts where we normally eat in town, so it was great to try new places like Solo Italiano Bistro. We loved the pesto pasta - so much so that we went back to Solo Italiano for my birthday dinner. This tour is a gift to our region and I HIGHLY recommend it for both locals and tourists alike.

This food tour is much more than just a delicious foodie stop. It's a walking history of how our food makes it to our table. I just wish we had brought our teens on the tour with us, they would have enjoyed it as well. We learned so much while enjoying a taste of several different cooking styles. The tour is well organized, each stop is hand-picked by the owner, and you never feel rushed. We would definitely do it again!

This is more than a food tour. My husband and I enjoyed the wonderful small plates at each of the restaurants we visited but we also toured a working lobster wharf and were fascinated by the stories Bryce, our tour guide, shared about Maine's food "system".

Just amazing! My husband and I enjoyed this tour implicitly. The time and energy spent creating this walk/tour exemplifies their love of this beautiful city. The talented chefs and their histories. These restaurants working to use locally sourced foods and ingredients to make unbelievably fresh, fantastic, innovative, delicious dishes. You are going to want a fully prepared meal from every restaurant on the list. Loved our guide, freakishly knowledgeable, I think he should run for president. Overall,...lovely experience! We were fortunate enough to have his daughter along for the tour, an absolute gem, pretty soon she may show up her father.

Thank you so much for the kind review! We are so glad you enjoyed the tour last Saturday, even in the driving rainstorm we had that day! Connecting the food with the education is really what it is all about for us. We are admittedly biased on this but we think our daughter is an absolute gem as well and is always welcome to show us up!

Thank you so much for a fabulous tour! The owner, Bryce, was our guide and was so knowledgeable and made it very fun. The food was outstanding and we enjoyed meeting the chefs, who rightly took great pride in their creations. Thank you for our first food tour and the bar has now been set very high!

i like to take a food tour when i visit new places and this one did not disappoint. we have fabulous food while learning about portland. the focus here is not just on food but on locally derived items on the menu. the hosts & restaurateurs are very informative and passionate about what they are presenting.
con: parking is hard to find and expensive in town. if you can uber, do that.

We are glad you were able to join us on the tour, Trish, and that you enjoyed the food and education we have put into this experience! Admittedly, parking can be a bit hit or miss in Portland and sorry that part of the experience was more challenging.

We are at the Best western Hotel in Portland. Do we need a vehicle to attend this tour, or do you offer transportation?

Hello - Thank you for your interest in our tours. We do not provide transportation to our starting tour restaurant, which is in the Old Port area of Portland. Once you are at our starting location, our tour is a walking tour and you will walk about one mile by the time the tour is complete. If you are at the Best Western in South Portland, you are about a 10-15 minute drive to our starting location and we include suggestions for parking in our confirmation email or there is also the option of taking an Uber. Please let me know if I can answer any additional questions.

Can you order wine to pair with the food?

I don’t think so, as you’d need to order 6 glasses across the afternoon and it would probably be too much. Many of the restaurants aren’t even open but let you in special. I’m a big wine fan and love doing wine and food pairings, but this is really about the food.
