This one is a difficult journey, the drive in as well as the hike. I would suggest 4 wheel drive, a walking stick or 2 and traverse slowly. On the hike in one will be crossing the stream(about 15' wide) a handful of times, rocks are slippery and the trail is rocky. Trail is not marked well so please do research on this trail before going. Although it was difficult and not well marked, it was well worth the journey.

Beautiful hike and view, but you should know what to expect!
The last 5 miles or so drive is unpaved, sometimes rocky roads. The parking lot is down a steep dirt road, as well.
The hike involves crossing a stream a few times, and some climbing up lots of large rocks- definitely can do it with the right children and dogs, but we saw a group attempt with a very little dog that had to turn back.
The falls were gorgeous, however this is not a very manicured or maintained area. We had to climb over several piles of sticks/logs, and sadly there was a dead moose right in the middle of the falls when we got there. Several people had jumped in or even drank the water before seeing it 😷 so definitely take precautions and NEVER drink untreated water!
All in all, a somewhat challenging and beautiful off the beaten path hike- but best to be prepared!

First of all, the road itself was blocked off by a logging company with zero way to drive to the parking lot. Ok we thought, we can just hike down the road to get there. However, once we arrived we noticed something very peculiar: the entire area around the trailhead was logged!! There’s stacks of trees everywhere and it looks NOTHING like it did before judging from satellite images as well as other photographs. What we saw was absolutely disgusting, it looked nothing like a trailhead at all and more like a generic area of clearcut forest with a big rock in the middle. Couldn’t even access the trail as the entire area was filled with downed trees and dangerous swaths of sharp tree debris. Would’ve loved to see the waterfall as it looks to be five stars, but the trail itself was utterly inaccessible as all the trees that used to be around the trailhead are now cut down and their pieces were in the way!! It’s as if the trail is not protected at all and they just decided the trail and trailhead itself would be a great logging spot.

Hiked this spot with a 6 year old and two 9 year olds. wasn't what I'd call an easy hike for young kids...couple of water crossings , but def doable and totally worth it!

This site is not very well marked and was difficult to find. It does require a challenging hike across streams and boulders, but it is something most people could do.
It is free and close to Rangeley Maine.

Among the best waterfalls to visit in Maine. About 90' tall. There is nice pool at the bottom you can soak in.
Angel Falls is not in Rangeley (I don't understand or can find the Houghton Street, Rangeley address that Trip Advisor uses). Angel Falls is about 45 minutes from downtown Rangeley off the Bemis Road (aka Bemis Track) closer to Roxbury Maine. you can get good directions at the Rangeley Chamber of Commerce office off Main Street in Rangeley.
The hike in is about 20-30 minutes depending on how fast a hiker you are. The hike is fairly level, but the path is rough and you have to cross a small river on stones at least 3 times. You need good balance/footing and some stamina to handle this comfortably.
It's a great trip for a large group or for kids.
The dirt road off the Bemis Room (also dirt) to the parking area is marked on a tree, but you need to be alert for it.
Not crowded, but there is a steady stream of people coming and going.
(For an easier hike to water falls and a swimming hole, check out Smalls Falls off RT 4 on the other side of Rangeley.)

Crossing the stream several times was the only real challenge, and after crossing the first it seemed to get easier. Rather dry, so crossing was not bad. Worth the trip!

Nice peaceful place. Beautiful to see but if you are an older person with knee problems you won't see much. A lot of stairs.

Pretty easy hike. Low flow so crossing the stream once and the brook three times was easy. Some rock clambering. Park up on the road unless you have a high clearance vehicle. Road down is solid but crossed by several drainage ditches. Made it easily with two wheel drive pickup.

This is a moderate hike. Took about 30 minutes to get there. It criss crosses the stream 3 times. River was low so no problem. May be trickier if higher water. Trail is off to the left of the large boulder. NOT down the path of fallen trees. Red stripes on trees and rocks guide your path.

I'm a senior female with diabetes, use a walking stick and am a slow walker; should I attempt the walk to Angel Falls?
