We love historical homes / tours / museums and this was one of our favorites. The museum and content are amazing, but our tour guide was the highlight.
Her knowledge and enthusiasm for Margaret Chase Smith was contagious and she happily answered any of our questions.
It is well worth a special drive to Skowhegan.

Margaret Chase Smith was a conservative politician by 20th Century Maine standards. But her decency and principled positions would be a breath of fresh air today. Would that our current representatives stood up to political bullies the way MCS did to McCarthy. This library/museum is built around her house in Skowhegan on the banks of the Kennebec River. It is filled with mementos of a political life and gives you insight into to roots of her character. The Senator seems to come alive for you in this place. Much like the Roosevelt cottage at Campobello, you expect figures from history to emerge around every corner. This is well worth a drive if you have never been to this museum.

For anyone wishing to learn about or expand their knowledge of Senator Smith this is THE spot. The staff has done a phenomenal job of collecting, displaying, and sharing information about this noteworthy pioneer.

History was made when Margaret Chase Smith became a Senator from Maine. Her career is well documented with her papers, pictures, and memorabilia all encased in a beautiful building on Norridgewock Ave. in Skowhegan.
Senator Smith carried in her purse at all times and copy of the Constitution. The library was well thought out, and encompasses all aspects of her tenure.

Margaret Chase Smith is an individual whose quiet legacy of service is amazing. The museum is a wonderful reflection on her life. The library is a plethora of information. A visit here is well worth the time. Don't miss it.

First of all- it was free! Amazing. An extensive display of photos and news clippings, all well explained. A very amazing lady and a true woman of the people. After reviewing all the documentary materials on my own and a video, the guide gave me a tour of the house and library..the views are wonderful and the house design is her own. A remarkable woman. No wonder Maine is proud of her.

The library is a wonderful place to visit. First of all, the setting is magnificent with incredible views. Inside you'll enjoy many interesting exhibits with great photos and memorabilia. Wonderful pieces of our country's history and the important role the senator played in our government. I loved the unique way the library is built around Margaret Chase Smith's original home. It's incredible to be able to step back in time and see how she and her husband lived. Like walking into another era, untouched in time. Very unique. Great for families - children will enjoy the exhibits as well.

My wife and I stopped here on our drive from Kennebunk to our timeshare resort in Jackman. We did not arrive in Skowhegan until after mid-afternoon on Memorial Day (25 May 2015), but we made the most of our time by at least enjoying the spectacular vistas from the grounds of this library. We enjoyed taking many nice photographs of the grounds. My wife is very active in the NFRW (National Federation of Republican Women) so the photographs I took of her with the nice plaques about Margaret Chase Smith were very popular with her many Republican friends. We will return when the library is open so that we can enjoy learning more about this remarkable lady.

This library is an outstanding review of the past century through the life of a great lady and senator. The library focuses mainly on Senator Smith with a chronological review of her life from the late 1890s to the late 1990s. Numerous pictures, quotes, speeches, and letters are very descriptive of her life and ours doing that period while addressing the issues of the day. If you like a review of the history of this period, this library is a must see. The library is all on one level and easily accessible by wheelchair. The staff was very cordial and informative. We felt welcomed and very much enjoyed our visit.
