This park has a great view of downtown Portland. There is also a small lighthouse you can walk out to. One area of the park has an historical exhibit on the extensive military shipbuilding that occurred in Portland during WW II. There are many period photographs with extensive information that will delight military history buffs. This is a great park to visit.

Quiet and relaxing park. The Bug Light was very pretty as it sit on the water. Very nice place to take a family.

Beautiful Park to view the shoreline of South Portland. We got to visit the museum and also visit Bug Lighthouse on the bay. Nice area to talk a walk along the shoreline. We highly recommend visiting this place.

Like many of the lighthouses in Maine, you can walk up to them but not enter. There is a nice tribute nearby to the shipyards during WWII and the park area is very pleasant.

Nice walk up Lighthouse. This was in a beautiful location. Lots of info provided. Overlooks downtown Portland. There are even picnic areas. Nice stop if you are in the area.

What a cute little lighthouse! Was with a friend who lives in Portland and was showing us around and she brought us to Bug Light. I mentioned the name and she said it was “cute as a bug.” Very nice park around the lighthouse. It was great that it was dog friendly for my group, but I just wish people would abide by the rules and keep their dogs on a leash. There was one guy who was letting his dog run all over the place and if we were not paying attention and going very slow in the parking lot, we could’ve hit him. It’s a shame when one careless person could possibly ruin it for others. But the lighthouse is adorable, some history at the park, and a view of Fort Gorges from shore!

Glad we could see the Bug Light house at Bug Light Park. A short walk to the lighthouse. It was in a beautiful location and even got a picture of a sailboat by it.

We enjoyed looking at the small light house. It was in a pretty location. Parking was available and it was only a short walk to the light.

Nice clean park. Lots of bikes, dogs, kites. Some nice views & a cute little lighthouse. Definitely worth an hour or so on a nice day.

The Bug Light park is an excellent spot to stop by and relax in Portland. It is possible to enjoy a view on the sea, on the boats that pass by, and on a nice old (decommissioned) lighthouse from the end of the 19th century.
Next to the lighthouse stands a memorial to the shipyards that produced Liberty Ships during World War II. We can get a lot of interesting information on what happened in the 1940s, and I recommend a stop there too.
In addition, this place comes with a free parking (which is, in my opinion, quite rare in Portland).

Is there overnight parking for cars with boat trailers?

I personally have no answer, having visited there only twice and neither time with a boat trailer. I can only recommend the South Portland government web site for possible answers (web address not allowed but you could find it using Google).

No, this is a gate to the actual park, but there is parking near the gate and you can walk the grounds anytime.

We went Dec of 18 and there were NO bathrooms. Dunkin Donuts is about 2 miles away on broadway.
